Mare Papering help
-
Hey, guys! I was just wondering about mare papering. I know how to do it, but what do the colors mean? I can't seem to find any information on this so I decided to just post a thread. Is there a FAQ section or informational page that includes and explains all of this? Thanks in advance!I.D. 221438

Foundation - yellow is fine, red is better
Red is better than yellow
Blue is better than red
Gold is better than blue.
Generally, most breeders want to see yellow only at the foundation level, and usually red is fine until the 3rd generation. 4th generations, you'll want to start seeing blues and no reds. Based on my own experience, gold probably won't start appearing until 6th gen, if you don't do boosted lines.

Thanks so much! Could you direct me to an informational page for future reference, if there are any?I.D. 221438

Another thing to consider is that mare papering tends to be more fluid than stallion papering. There are often mares that are borderline between red and blue or blue and gold.
They may throw foals with high PT scores but still paper lower than expected.
I've had mares with foals that had PT scores in the 11+ range paper red. If they were 3rd generation mares, it wasn't a big deal to me, just surprising.
Hmmm, try this link
