Changed his Genes: Why didn't he turn brown?
  • I bought this guy and his only foal yesterday. I yummed the foal so I could alter him. He had two "AA" genes and I changed one to a smaller "a". Then I went in and changed it to "at" so that he would be a brown splash appaloosa. You can see the tattoos on the bottom of the page that shows this, but when I went back to his page after changing it the second time, it still shows him with two large A's and not "Aat". Is this a glitch or did I do something wrong?

Think! - It's not illegal yet.
  • You were half right with the GMTs. Brown gets covered up by either of the other agouti genes, so the A covers the At. I'm afraid what you wanted there was aAt.
  • You changed the little a to At instead of the A to At.

  • Hmmm, I always thought that to show the brown, the "t" had to be with the small "a". So I have it in reverse, it should be with the large "A"?

  • When I went to change the small "a", it showed me a small "a" on the one I wanted to change, so I don't know how I did it wrong.

Ok, going to try the "aAt" route. Lets hope it works.

  • It does not need to be a small a to change to At. You can change A to At. You have for options A,a,At. and A+. You can change any of them to any of the others.

Small a is recessive ASIP and At is a variation of ASIP. http://www.huntandjump.com/geneticsguide/?page_id=48
    For brown you need aAt.

Not sure if any of this answers you question. But he is gorgeous!
