The advantages to creating a horse yourself is that it belongs to you and can be a start to your very own breeding line, and you can choose a herd helper from the ones posted here in the forum or on the HaJ Facebook page, that will have the color and/or pattern you are interested in.

The disadvantages are that unless it comes from a Perfect Foundation or Exceptional Producer or Show Horse Herd Helper, the breeding and showing ability of the horse can be almost anything.

The advantages to purchasing a horse from another member are that you may be getting a better quality, multi-generation (ancestors going back for at least 1 and maybe more generations); it may already have gathered a nice number of show points for its placement in classes for some amount of time and will add to your daily showing bonus; it may come with a demonstrated ability to show or breed; if it's a foal, you can see what it's parents and other ancestors, if any, are like.

The disadvantages are that you have to examine the information about the horse on its page and the tabs of the page to make sure that it is a horse that you really want to spend the money on. Not all players play the game the same way, so what another player has bred or created may not meet your personal standards. As in any person to person interaction, the by-word is "Buyer beware."

On another note, we do have an adoption program to provide horses with known breeding ability or a good start on gaining show points for a very low price on the condition that the adopting player will keep them and not resell them or auction them immediately for a profit.
