Show horses not earning
-
I have several 2 year olds in my show stock that I bred last season, but so far they have not earned anything in shows. How long should I wait before they start earning? Should I just sell them to make room for horses that will earn?
-
Your two year olds just barely turned two; they haven't had a chance to do anything. :)
Money earned from winning shows is pretty much negligible, but they don't cost very much to enter, either. The real money is a long term investment in a show string. Every time you show a horse, as long as that horse doesn't come in absolute dead last in the class, it'll earn some points. Every day your stable earns HBs equal to (50% of the total number of points the horses in your barn have divided by 7).
If you show all your horses (except maybe your yearlings because they can't train and yearling shows aren't really worth anything) they'll all earn you points, and thus they'll all add money to your account every single day. But you have to keep your horses, and show your horses, and don't blame them for only having one or two point-valued shows under their belts. :) -
Thanks. I am still a bit new to the game and was a bit confused on why some of my horses were getting points and some weren't.

It is exactly what Stone Silo Farm said. But, did you know there is an adopting program for new members, that gives new players the possibility to own a few good, older show horses who holds a lot of points?
You can only adopt horses with one of your accounts (I think), but that may give you some help
Here is a thread on the forum about the adopt a horse-program :)

This game is more of a long term strategy game and often you can’t really tell if a horse is going to be good until it has leveled off. (Roughly when their age is the same as their PT)
Yearlings you can’t tell at all because winning or loosing is pretty much a flip of a coin.
For older horses ones ones with low PT will level off earlier and often stick longer in the levels as they work their way up in the show ranks. Earning money as they go.
While higher PT horses often fly through the lower levels and rarely sit at one level long enough to be competitive (looking like they are just costing you money) but they will reach higher levels of showing and if they level off in a sweet spot will make you much more in the long term than a lower pt horse.
When you are first starting out you will want a range of horses so that the lower leveled horses will cover for your higher PT horses until they find their spots. Once your higher leveled horses start earning your keep you can start cutting back on the lower end horses (or keep them and rule the world)
My rule of thumb is if you get rid of a horse the one taking its place should be younger and have close to the same or more points and I rarely even look at my horses before they have leveled off because everyone can have an off day or month but when you look back on their life they may not be as bad as that bad week makes them look.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genesThanked by 1SandyCreekAcres
