Bad foal crop?
-
Is it just me or is everyone else having problems breeding intact foals this year? All of my foals are papering worse then their parents. Can someone please explain why this has been happening. 1 of 10 foal has passed breeding advice.

9 horses is a very small sample to judge from.
It's possible that you've just been unlucky, and every foal's breeding ability was pulled from the lower end of both parents' potential.
A common mantra around the game is "There's always next season." -
Ya, I was just curious why, because I tried putting 2nd gen A papered boys to my 2nd Gen Red Girls. Hoping to maybe give the foals a better chance at a higher breeding ability. Is this dumb? Should I just put B to Red?
(Sorry for so many questions) -
Are you using SBA? 1 in 10 intact is about right for that.
If you use breeding advice first (and you should, always; breeding advice and strict breeding advice are your friends) then there's actually no point in papering the foals afterward. They got spayed/gelded because they were better show horses than breeders, which usually means that, as breeders, they're not very good (relative to their parental benchmark.)
It is harder to get intact foals when you cross As with Reds because there is at least a generation of ability difference between them, but generally speaking it does give the foals that make it through testing a chance of being better than B/Red foals. I'd always rather have fewer, better horses than more, average ones if that makes sense. -
Depends on what you're looking for. If you want more intacts in general, breeding similar abilities is best so your Reds to your Bs. If you want higher quality intacts overall but are ok with getting fewer, the As to the Reds can be a good idea because you'll get fewer that pass BA but those that do will possibly be better quality.
