Why was he gelded?

Why was this horse gelded? http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2694167
I ran him through the GA test and he was gelded. Then, because it was free, I ran him through the gelding papering, and he got A! Why was he gelded if he was an A?Post edited by Oak Tree Stables at 2014-03-13 13:47:43Used to be SilverPony on the old forum.
I am currently working on developing my own line :) I'm not very far yet, but I'm getting there! -
If I remember correctly, GA will geld them if they are a certain amount worse than their sire. His sire is Star, so that's probably why.

Oh. I should've run him through stallion testing first. =(( Lesson learned. Thanks!Used to be SilverPony on the old forum.

Actually, I would put them past Charlie first.
You do not want stallions that are lower quality than their sires - you're breeding down. They will produce lower quality horses than their sire.Thanked by 1shellbell -
I always do all of the free testing first. If I horse doesn't get past the free testing I dont want to be wasting my money on the paid testing when I can use it on a horse that did get through the free testing. Ultimately it will be a better horse.Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genesThanked by 1PitsLodge

I have had several Star stallions gelded because they were worse than their Star sire, but I agree with Gael4ce, there is no sense in breeding lower quality horses. I was lucky enough to buy a Star stallion that was intact by the same stallion and I can't wait until next year when he is old enough to breed :)

Yeah. That must be hard, having a Star that is only a little worse than their sire, then having him gelded! Wouldn't want to breed down though.
Good luck with your new Star, amber!Used to be SilverPony on the old forum.

Thank you, I had some really good luck picking up some very nice colts this year. I am going to keep working on my herd hoping to breed some just as good one of these days. :)

Just a suggestion. When breeding the best way to establish and improve lines is to breed equal generation horses to equal generation horses. For example foundation to foundation, 2nd gen to 2nd gen, etc... The boy you linked to here was from a foundation mare bred to a stallion that is many generations old (When you click the family tab it shows the generations). Establishing and maintaining an even pedigree makes selling foals and/or public breeding more attractive to other players.Thanked by 1PitsLodge
