Genetic question
-
What is the difference between "Ssty" and "S+"?
-
Ssty is ordinary sooty, that darkens the coat from the top-line down, unless it's masked by a lot of dilution genes.
S+ is an especially active variety of Sooty that often gives a dappled effect in the dark areas, especially below the top line.
Here is a heterozygous Sooty Buckskin.
Morithashtor
Here is a homozygous Sooty Buckskin.
Amphrollin
Here is a heterozygous S+ Buckskin.

Here is a homozygous S+ Buckskin.

There will, of course, be some variations from horse to horse, but these four should give you some idea of the differences. -
Thank you. Wow the two that are homozygous look more bay than buckskin.
-
That is because Sooty, and S+, are darkening genes, making for a darker coat.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!

At the Game-a-thon fundraiser for the therapeutic riding program I volunteer with yesterday, I saw a horse that at first glance I thought was a bay dun . When I asked the owner, she told me it is a buckskin. :D Just a real-life proof that the images in the game are truly realistic. The horse looked about the color of the first of my examples, without all that splash.
I did correctly identify a dark grullo based on my experience in the game, however, and my daughter and I think we also saw a silver bay dun. She may post one of the pictures I took of that one once they are downloaded from the camera to the computer.
