Splash M Lethal Whites?
  • Stupid question but does splash M play a part in the lethal white load (not meaning lethal white caused by frame but the KIT lethal white load)? I recall that splash and frame do play a roll but for some reason I thought I saw somewhere that splash M doesn't. I am working on a new stud and I don't want to worry too much about lethal foals.

  • This is what Ammit had to say about that when SpM was introduced in May last year:
In game the gene is designated as SpM. There is no difference between homozygous and heterozygous horses. The gene is not lethal with anything in game. (In real life it would probably have many lethal interactions, but since the real line won't continue I am going to ignore that .)

  • Thank you so much! I swore I could remember something like that but then I thought I was going crazy... Looks like my new stud will have it :D

  • As an addendum to that I believe that yes, KitM does add to the overall white load. All the kit genes do to some extent: www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/16745/new-kit-lethality-and-kit-mutation-load-explained - up at the top it talks about how the more White Load there is, the greater the potential for lethality. By the chart, kitM is pretty safe unless you start crossing it over some of the harsher genes.
