I know this has been asked so many times but I keep forgetting :)) how do you tell if a foal carries the KP from his Sire? Thank you ^:)^

Unless he also got it from his dam and has 2 Kit mutations, you can't, if the sire is heterozygous KP. If the sire is homozygous KP, you will know that the foal is at least heterozygous KP from the sire.

If the sire is hom KP, the foal will automatically be a KP carrier... if sire is het KP, you would have to breed the foal to a hom or het KP to find out.. only way Hom KP will show is if there is 2 kit mutations (example: Kit w20 Kit r)

KP hom horses will also register in the KP breeding club. The catch is that they have to be color tested, and not carry any fantasy gene. If they do carry fantasy genes, then they are not eligible to register, so it would be a guessing game.

They have to be colour tested with 2 kit mutations to show KP and be registrable in the kp breeders club.

Personally I add capital KP to all my homo kp horses names and automatically add lowercase kp to all their foals. The foals of het kp horses dont get marked until they prove to be kp (by having a homo kp foal) because it’s impossible to tell if they may have inherited the one possible kp gene.
