I need an explanation
  • So I have been breeding my horses(goodbye to my money. LoL) and I have only been getting fillys, is the genetics or just random chance. I feel kinda stupid RN.
  • Sounds like you just hit a lucky streak... males determine what the gender of the offspring will be so x,x is female and x,y is male... while yes, technically it is a 50/50 chance of getting either gender... sometimes males x or y chromosomes aren't strong enough to survive before the other chromosomes make it to the egg thus resulting in some males only being able to give only female offspring or only Male offspring... however I do not think the game is that complex...

  • Wellll--maybe not. Only Ammit knows the background programming. :D

Here's another way to look at it.

Every horse (and living being with sexual reproduction, not just cell division like an amoeba) has two copies of every gene and a certain number of paired chromosomes that carry the genes. One chromosome and one member of the gene pair came from the father, and the other chromosome and gene came from the mother.

On the chromosome that determines sex, an x gene produces female characteristics, a y gene produces male characteristics. All female creatures are xx. Male creatures are yx. (The father's contribution to a gene set is often placed first.)

So, every time you breed a stallion to a mare, the stallion has a 50 % chance of passing on a y gene and a 50% chance of passing on an x gene. The mare always passes on an x gene. This means each time there is a 50% chance of getting a colt and a 50% chance of getting a filly. It does NOT mean that half of the foals will be colts and half will be fillies. It's like flipping a penny. There is a 50 % chance of getting heads with every throw, but getting 5 heads in a row does NOT guarantee that the next 5 tries will be tails.

Since chance is involved, sometimes you will get more fillies and sometimes you will get more colts. Here at Hunt and Jump, we would say that you have been visited by the filly fairy. Some season's it's the colt fairy that haunts a stable. :D

  • By the way, please do NOT feel stupid. This is an incredibly complex game based on the incredible complexities of real life, and there are absolutely no stupid or silly questions. I've been playing since 2011, starting after 8 months of watching my daughter play, and I still learn new things about the game from time to time.

  • Re: real life stallions sometimes only producing fillies. I remember this Arabian who had a live filly guarantee- he overwhelmingly produced daughters. Wish I remembered the dang horse's name! I'd love to know if they ever figured out why.
  • I think my Herd Helper and DHH role just bugged. I used my free DHH's to re roll my Herd Helper and when I had what I wanted, not spending an extra 5,000 to get more re rolls, I went to create a foal in a herd helper it instead of taking the 2,500 hb it took 5,000 saying I used it to get more DHH, this was not the case. I clicked to create foal. Help? How do I fix this so I can use the 5,000 that i was going to use for 2 foals? Is there someone I can contact about the bug? Thanks! P.S. really hope this gets fixed quickly as I only have a little less than 24 hours left on the herd helper.

  • @KigerBravestone if it was a bug you can post in the Bug Discussion form and Ammit will check it out! If you post that concern as a separate thread you might get more feedback
