Visually IDing Snowflake
-
Ok guys, I'm getting into snowflake and I need a little help. Since you can't test for it, unless you GMTed a horse or know for sure both parents are hom, you can't know if a horse is hom snowflake or not except by looking at it. I, however, don't really know what hom snowflake tends to look like in game. Some seem to be super duper speckled, some less so. So my question is how do you id visually whether a horse has inherited snowflake or not? I'm aware that it only shows with the app gene present, and that it needs to be hom to show, I'm mostly asking what homozygous snowflake really looks like.
I have a couple horses in particular I'm wondering about. One is the son of my GMTed hom snf foundation stud, the other his granddaughter, so they could have gotten snowflake from him.
This is said foundation stud. As you can see, his snowflakes aren't super obvious to begin with, and blend with his SpM spotting, so I'm really not sure which is which in him.

And this is his son Siegfried. (He's het snf for sure, since Aristo is hom) To me he looks like he has the same sort of spots as his sire, and he only has app, no splash or kit to potentially add speckles. His dam is a new create with no app, so looking at her offers no hints. Could he be hom snowflake and I lucked out an got a carrier mare, or am I getting too excited and seeing things that aren't there?
CFN Siegfried RB ChAppSaS
Now here's Moonlight. She has those same spots, but she also has splash and w20, but no SpM, so until I took a closer look at Sieg I assumed that's all that was. Her dam is a no-app create as well. But I haven't seen splash (non M) or w20 leave speckles that far up before either, so...
CFN Moonlight RR CApp
This is Moonlight's sire Aramis, Aristo's son, and Sieg's brother. He has those speckles again, and he's at least het snf, but he's also got that SpM (and w20). His dam is yet another of my no-app champ creates.

So... do any of these look homozygous snowflake to you guys? How do you know?
Also, I'd love to see examples of what snowflakes DO look like in game. Feel free to use this to show off your snowies, guys!
Thank you!Spiderweb Stables

A quick test for snowflake: If the horse has Lp, and you can enter it in the Snowflake Breeders Club, he is hom. snowflake.
It seems to me that neither of the three sons are hom. snowflake, but if you can enter them in the club, then you will know that they are homozygous :)
Here is a list of all my SplM hom. Snowflake horses:

BTW, I love the coloring on your foundation! I would never have guessed that he is Chestnut! I did not know that they can turn so yellow :x

Well according to that test, these guys are not homozygous. Too bad! I'd still like to see eveybody's hom snowflakes, and see what they look like!Spiderweb Stables

Thanks! I forget he's chestnut, actually. I keep thinking he's one of my golden champs, but it's just the SpM!Spiderweb Stables

Another thing to keep in mind - a homo SF horse can not be entered into the SF breeder's club if he carries fantasy genes.Thanked by 1Taliesin

I have a Watercolor stallion that is homo SF but he's not eligible for that club.

I have noticed how some snowflakes have the really light, dainty spots whereas there are others where they are super thick equivalent to... a blizzard I guess :))
Would that be a result of varnishing, some other factor, or is it just chance?ID: 247225

Some of it is a random (or at least hidden factor), but they get more and more sports every year, until they becomes completly white when they are old.
Here is an example of how snowflake changes with age. They are all different horses, but I tried to find horses with as little other white markings as possible:

Some will varnish out faster than others, it is very individual. -
