I put any pertinent information in their name. I am more concerned with their Generation and the KitM gene. So I normally do something like:

HorseyName 3G M (If a KitM carrier)

For my first couple (real) years, I used spreadsheets and loved them. Then I found my true love, pastures. ^_^
Because I breed 99% by pasture, those are separated by generation and by line. My barns however, are sorted only by gender - Stallions, Mares, Alters. I have a foundation mares barn right now, only because I stocked up during the recent Blackout and have too many to throw into pastures.

Currently my barns are a mess because I need a new show barn but I normally have 210 barns for intacts each barn holds a generation of mares and studs and 1000 stall barns for show horses.

Most of my mares are in pastures that are further sorted by generation and line (kp or fantasy- axiom, Nexus, plaid)

But for most of my organization, culling, tattooing, naming, breeding pairs etc. is done with the search page.

I don't over organise barns, because I use the search to find them, they are mostly just storage for youngstock or show stock anyway. However my pastures are organised in the breeding groups, so mares of the same generation, same era etc. so I can put a stallion in to breed to them all
