Barns vs. Pastures For Breeding Stock
-
I'm mostly asking for opinions here and weighing the value of just buying more barns for all of my stock versus pastures. As I understand it, the pros of pasture breeding are more intacts and higher quality foals (especially crucial for higher generations). By leaving breeding stock in barns, however, they are able to rack up points showing.
What are everyone's thoughts on a good pasture/barn ratio for lower generations (foundations, second, & third generations)? Is there anything I'm missing here?ID: 247225

I buy young ponies from auction to use for points and keep my breeding horses in pasture. My daily is over 30k now, and I've only been playing since late January.

Ha! That really puts my 2.5k to shame :)) sounds like you started around the same time as I did. I am working on hoarding show ponies now (a little late, but ah well).
So your barns are primarily for showing then? I was wondering if there's any value in showing breeding stock.ID: 247225

I use barns for showing stock, and pastures for breeding stock. I have a lot of showing stock though, well a lot of breeding stock too LOL, but way more barns than pastures for the show string!
-
My stallions are shown, but I prefer the pasture bonus for breeding mares, that's why they stay in pastures
-
Yeah, same here, @Kintara. Some of my breeding mares have points, but they don't show. They're just an extra bonus/dual purpose horse.
-
One bonus of barn breeding is that you can get 4-5 foals per month from mares using embryos. I have some in pasture for that bonus, and others in stalls for the showing part and the embryos part.

For us newbies who always seem to be running low on funds, pasture breeding is much cheaper. There’s nothing to say you can’t keep a mare in a barn to show and just move to the pasture long enough to breed though.
-
You also get a pasture bonus on your foals if the mare has been in there for 30+ days. I use this for my lined mares to help me breed stronger, more intact foals. It also lets me see which stud/mare is a good producer of intact offspring vs showing. If they produce more showing I leave them out of the pasture to show and collect points.
I have a good chunk of foundation horses with points, so I earn around 40k daily XD -
The pasture bonus starts when the mare has been in the pasture for a day and grows to a max bonus at 30 days. In hj2 I rotate my mares to get the most bonus for generations that are a little sparse and run the larger generations through quicklyBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes
