As I am new to genetics and GMTing, can somebody give me the rundown on how GMT works? I would like to make him homozygous for satin. He also has nd1, but is only het for it. I hear that is desirable on this server? What would he look like if he was hom nd1?

  • When dealing with lined horses, like this one, you can only GMT genes that he could've inherited from his parents. His dam has neither nd1 or the satin gene, so unfortunately you can't give him another copy of either of them. He's neat looking, though!
  • Thank you! Could I GMT a foundation horse to my liking?
  • @BlueBoy indeed you can! Most GMT projects you see ARE Foundation horses. I do now know there are some tiny restrictions like with height and what not. But this shouldn't be a problem if your going for Satin and Nd1. Have fun!
  • Also, for GMTing a foundation, Ive noticed more sucess when the GMTd foundation is an exceptional producer or exceptionally perfect. Can be bred with the same type of mares, any red papered ones, and youll have better luck with intact offspring :)
  • Thanks you both, bravo and wolvevenfrost! I appreciate the help! :D
