Tattoos?
  • SteflizStefliz December 2017
Why do people remove the horses tattoo if it has one? whats the point to have one if you can remove it? I get irritated and sad when i sell one of my breedings and the buyer removs the tattoo...
Whats your thoughts on the matter??

    ChilliFireFarm December 2017
It costs to remove a tattoo so we only do it if we really don't want it. I have removed only one tattoo in the past because I didn't like it and I bought the horse for a lot of money so felt it was ok to remove it. Just my thoughts though - most of the time I do leave them on but I don't tattoo my own - don't really like them. It's personal preference

Typically the only time I will remove a horse is when I feel that it covers up the horse (like it it's on its cheek) or if it is in the place where I put one of my own tattoos. I think it is common courtesy to not remove a tattoo unless it is absolutely necessary.

I typically leave the tattoos on horses I buy. It costs money to remove one, and most of the time it is a marker for a certain line. On the flip, I do not get fussed if one is removed from a horse I have sold. It no longer belongs to me, and the buyer is free to do what they will to it.

This really has never been true. Tattoos are for personal reference for the owner of the horse not for the person who bred it or used to own it. If you cared enough about the horse having a tattoo to actually get upset about it would be better not to sell the horse. You can always look horses up by breeder id.

Ok, I do understand that it doesnt belong to me anymore but i put a lot of heart in the tattoo (SZ=Stefliz)

That is just how I view it and handle tattoos with my own horses. Of course once you sell a horse the new owner can do what they would prefer. And no I think your tattoo is perfect!

Yes your tattoo is cute and discrete but if you sell the horse they are no longer your's - just like RL. You have to let them go...

I will typically leave a breeder tattoo but I will remove all gene tattoos in order to use my own. That way I don't have a whole slew of tattoos "gunking" up the image. And it makes searching my horses easier

I leave all of the original tattoos on the horses I buy. If it is in the same place as where I put my tattoo I just place it on top

I get a little upset whenever I sell a horse and the new owner removes the tattoo. But that's just how it goes. Once the horse is sold it's there's to do with as they please.
I know it's not technically common courtesy to leave tattoos on but I think a lot of members feel this way. The way i see it is that the original owner put a lot of time to produce that horse and either commission the tattoo or draw it themselves so I leave them

I do agree with Hayes if I were to buy a horse with a lot of gene tattoos I would probably replace it with my own. I keep gene tattoos for my lines and not much else. I try to have decently clean horses

My tattoos are all gene and generation markers. So I don't care if they stay or go. My only problem is that I will forget to put my own owner ID number in when doing a tattoo search and I get back a bunch of horses I haven't owned for years!

What do you mean with Gene tattoos? Is it a good thing? what do you uce it for?

    Bandit1119 December 2017
Gene tattoos is just a tattoo that is put on a horse that has a particular gene that the owner would like to be able to search for and have all of their horses with that gene pop up. I only have tattoos marking horses with outside blood on this game but on hj1 I have ones that I put on my nexus Horses

I have an orange/brownish fleur de lis for horses with the Sooty+ gene, and a white one for horses with KP, and a, well, pearl looking one for horses with pearl, etc.

I use the generation tattoos more. I have a red fleur de lis with a 2 next to it for 2nd gen, blue for 3rd gen, green for 4th gen, etc. Purple fleur de lis is for Rank Special horses. It makes it really easy to see them in a search, especially if I use the "view in search" link to look at a full barn!

I also have a tattoo that looks like a broken heart to draw my attention to the fact that that horse has a gene that might be lethal if crossed with the wrong mate.

I really wish we could *move* tattoos that are already on horses - I don't want to remove other people's tattoos, but I really dislike the way all tattoos look on the horses images and wish I could move them off to the corners of the pictures. I realize it doesn't make realistic sense, but it would appease both the people who don't like tatts on their horses AND the folks who get upset when their tattoos get removed.
