Buckskin Question
-
I have a buckskin welsh pony, during the summer he goes quite dark, but in winter he turns pale and when clipped he is grey. I was wondering what you might think his color/color testing might be? Or what causes this? He also has some dappling in his coat, it is quite faint though.
Don't want to get him color tested as he is a gelding so i don't think it would be worth it. Anyone else have or know of any horses/ponies like this?
He is 8-9 years old in the photos. :)
This is his dad, Imperial Jaguar

And his mom, Amaranda Teardrop
I only know that she was born a cremello, not sure what her adult colour was.
If his parents where a cremello and chestnut, shouldn't he be a palomino?

His parents can not be cremello and chestnut. Most likley his dam is a perlino. Clipped coat means nothing as a clipped coat does not reflect true color.
Most likley he is just buckskin that looks weird in the winter. The color of a horse has a lot to do with the length of the hair. As the length changes so does the color. It is pretty normal. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

she/her -
He sounds like a normal horse. Many will be lighter or darker during the winter than the summer. Here's the palomino I used to own in various stages of shedding.
Full winter coat -
Shed along her neck and face mostly -
Mostly shed out -
And completely shed out mid summer -

oh well, doesn't matter to me too much. I was just curious as to if he might have been a bit interesting. :)
