Places and ponies pt.2
  • Are there any breeds special/native/discovered/ where you're from (could be your state, country, part of a country etc.)? I always love talking about these kinds of things because I usually ponder across breeds of horses I'm not Familiar with!

I'll start. I was born in and currently live in Iowa! Iowa is pretty bland as an all around state (maybe just me), but if you're looking for a specific thing like horses, you will find plenty out here. The POA (Pony Of the Americas) was developed here! Originally a Shetland/Arabian/Appaloosa cross, the breed has developed into a more ranchier and performance breed. POAs are often a "first pony" for many, 12 to 14 hands, athletic, lots of endurance, great for kids (and adults too)! My first pony was a POA and It's really the only breed I've ridden if I'm being quite honest :))
Another Breed that was founded in Iowa was the American Cream Draft. American Cream Drafts are the only draft breed that can claim to be native to America. Because of this they're on the more rare side. I've only recently become facinated with these golden champagne beauties, but one of the few approved American Cream Draft stallions is at stud just a few miles away! Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet him and learn more about the breed :x
I'm also a citizen of the Phillippines! My mother is from there and I got my citizenship relatively recently. When I went there in 2016 to visit some family I saw these stocky little ponies EVERYWHERE. On the beach, on my Lolo's mangosteen farm, in front of small shops on the roadside, at resorts etc. I slowly learned to love the little guys after riding and doing tours on them for a couple days. These are the Philippines' native horse! There isn't really a name for them that I'm aware of but I adore them :)

    Your turn!
