I have a new chocolate chinchilla pair that I’m working on, and I really want to work a copy of onyx onto one of them, but I can’t decide which one!

The stud is currently nd1/D, and I was going to replace the Dun with Onyx, but I kind of like the grullo chinchilla thing he’s got going on.

1B GMT Parallax

The mare is currently nd1/-, and I really like how dark she is.

GMT 1R chin 10574995

My options are:
-leave both how they are (no onyx)
-replace Dun with onyx on stud, replace (-) with Dun on mare (yes onyx, keep the grullo in the pair, but lose the darkness of the mare)
-leave stud how he is, add onyx to mare (onyx will not be passed on as much as if it were on the stud)

This decision has been eating at me for weeks! :-SS :-??

I like how dark the mare is, I think I'd personally add a copy of onyx to the stud. Regardless, they are both beautiful :x

When in doubt; Onyx is always the answer :))

Why don't you replace the nd1 on the stud with onyx, that way half your foals will be onyx and half will be grullo? And you could even make the mare hom nd1 if you want

I think that I would also go with @Taliesin's plan, as that also allows you later to get the dark look that the mare has. Basically, you will always get a desirable gene from the dun strands.

I ended up going the long way to following Tali’s plan, and wasting a couple GMT tokens along the way. :)) Oh well, they look good now!
