    I don’t specialize in buckskin, so I was really thrown off by this mare. When I saw her portrait, I assumed she carried sooty. But alas! Is it the At that’s making her look sooty in the absence of sooty genes?

    Most likely. Buckskin is a dilution of bay (agouti) and brown is an agouti gene, so I’m guessing this horse looks like that because the cream gene is diluting the brown gene.
