Breeding hunters to jumpers
  • Bad idea, or no big deal? I'm wondering if I'm making a mistake by not sorting my girls for H v J when breeding to a J stud, etc.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks:)

  • I don't believe it makes any difference. I've never checked to see whether the sire's discipline of the dam's is dominant when mixing the two, but since you can change a horse's discipline without any damage to its career so long as you do it before training begins, I'm pretty sure there is no effect on the showing ability.

  • I've never taken any notice, but it might be like breeding sport ponies to warmbloods, doesn't matter and the foal has a chance of being either
