Horses vanishing to thin air? Solved

I've been going through my barns looking for some mares to put in my primary pasture for breeding, except even though I have sent more than a few to the primary pasture, the pasture remains empty. I've made sure I'm using mares not bred this year, and old enough to breed. I don't get any fail messages from the game.
