I joined in August and wrote an entry for the exchange, but I am having second thoughts on participating. There was a forum post recently from someone who was banned despite receiving good reviews, and I am afraid of winding up like that. The big thing to me is the 25,000 expectation. I don't know how to meet that. Is there something that tracks the spending? What other tips do you guys have for me?

As far as a spending tracker, we all keep notes. Once the exchange starts there is a note section on the gift exchange page. I used it extensively last year! The only tip I have is to ghost the givee's barns. You will get a list of likes and dislikes, but there have been times the one I received wasn't very clear. So look closely at the type of horses they normally create, body-size, height. Also search their GMT'd foundations, that'll tell you a lot about what genes they like. Mostly just have fun!

Thank you for the pointers. At the lowest level, what usually is exchanged? Horses? Anything requiring IVs?

If you ever forget to note down what you paid for a horse or another gift you can also take a look at your Transactions list on the Member Home page and a horse's Record page will also keep track of how much it was sold for and to whom.

At level one, horses and straws are quite common. IVs are worth 12,500 hbs, so that's already half of the expected amount - I'd say probably less common.

I'd agree that it is a lot of fun and that everyone is usually very appreciative. I'd just advise saving up a bit in advance and then making sure that you have some time to shop for gifts that fit the wish list.

Normally if it's being bought for the exchange, most of the established players will sell horses and straws at discounts, so you can go overboard if you wish to.

As with most things in this game; if you give a genuine effort and really try, then there are ZERO problems. If you aren't sure about the financial part, go ahead and enter the Exchange. If you don't make enough it will tell you!

I've asked Ammit for clarification, and don't have an answer yet, so I don't know for sure if this is how it works, but the Exchange says that you need a weekly income of 2500 hbs. A Basic Upgrade gives you a weekly paycheck of 12,500 hbs.

@ConfluenceStable, I think I understood that the weekly income requirement for the gift exchange only counts showing bonus, not the weekly pay we collect based on our membership level. I have a very low showing bonus, only a little over 2,000hbs per day, but adding that to my 12,500hbs weekly pay would put me over the 25,000hbs requirement for level two, yet on the gift exchange sign-up page, I see this message barring me from that level:

Level 2
This account does not qualify for the level 2 gift exchange yet. To enter level 2 accounts must:

Have qualified for level 2 by previous participation.
Have a weekly showing bonus of 25,000 hbs. (3,571 hbs per day)

As a rough guide, spending the required 25,000 hbs could be as simple as creating 10 Foundation horses for your Giftee. As other people have commented, we really like to help other players source gifts at a discount if it's for the Exchange. There will be 'Elves' to help out with keeping you anonymous if you need to check something with your Giftee or you need some advice. It's a lot of fun, but it does take up some of your time, so as long as you can commit to that I would say, give it a go! :)

@CLynnRose ; you also have to earn level 2 by participating in level 1 and "gifting" up to the next level ;
So if i entered level 1 and want to bump up i would need to spend a total for level 2 ( i think its 250k ?) , if i ve never gifted before

The person in question did not receive good reviews. You do not need to worry about being banned unless you absolutely flake on the exchange.

The exchange counts showing bonus only. Upgrade pay is not factored into that because it does not predict how solid a person's barn is.

Thank you for all the input. I am nervous, but I will give it a try. I just fear blunders on my part, as sometimes life goes awry despite one's best efforts.

@Treble ; am sure you ve seen for yourself how active both Ammit and ConfluenceStables are ; if god forbid "life" happens just send them a DM and let them know ; there are always people willing to "give" an extra bit

@Treble Don’t worry, we’re all here to help you! I was really nervous my first gift exchange and I was scared of messing up. I was a newer player then and was still learning how the search function worked. I was struggling to find the kind of horses that my giftee asked for and was scared that they wouldn’t like what I gave them, but a bunch of players helped me out with finding horses and other gifts that my giftee ended up loving!

Just try to relax, have fun, and think of it like a team scavenger hunt! You find what you can on your own, but if you get stuck, the rest of your team is here to help :D

I totally agree with Nightphoenix. Everyone is SO helpful, it’s one of the things I genuinely love about this community and the gift exchange. I know I personally go easy on snipping my horses at exchange time in case anyone needs something I can offer.
