Linebreeding or Inbreeding? - IRL breeding advice
-
The mare that I love very truly is in phenomenal shape. Very correct, well-bred saddlebred mare (for privacy reasons I won't post a picture but I will include pedigree). She's older, 1999, however she's in phenomenal condition she's still competing.
I've taken a lot of thought into this, in a few years I'm considering breeding her. Not having her carry, thinking of having an embryo transferred and frozen until she passes. It's a very expensive and unique process, I've spoken to potential fertility and reproductive facilities about having this done, she's like family to me, I will do anything to keep her loving memory alive.
Onto the main point, picking a stallion has been an equally as long process. I support responsible breeding practices, correct, proven sires are what I look for. I found one, Nutcracker's Nirvana. But when I did hypothetical breeding through allbreedpedigree I saw some inbreeding.
So the question is this, should I still consider breeding my mare to this stallion? My mare is a 4th generation New Yorker offspring, the Stud is a 3rd. New Yorker is a phenomenal influential stallion but I'm unsure of how I stand on line/inbreeding and am looking for advice.
Thank you for the read!Post edited by Valedictorian at 2021-12-19 19:26:49Arabian sporthorses of the highest achievement • 271334 -

This cross IMO isn't all that heavy with linebreeding.
I know more about Morgans and this kind of linebreeding is quite frequent in some horses. You can bring out some nice qualities but there is always a chance of some problems.
Example of Morgan breeding - https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/minion+valentino
He produced a stunning colt that was one of the breeds top sires. This guy has produced a stunning amount of world champions - https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/minion+millenium
If you really like stallion and his comformation complements your mare, then he would still be a good choice. Can you chat with some of the people that own progeny? Are there other foals of his with similar breeding? You might be able to get an idea of any problems his lines have produced.

Thank you! I will definitely speak to the sire’s owners eventually about progeny:)
And I do think you’re right about the ‘heaviness’, the inbreeding percentage from thar breeding is about 9.4% so the COI would be less than 0.1, from what I’ve heard that’s good.
A good friend of mine has Clydesdales and she says anything below 0.4 is good, but I’ve been told Clydesdales are very inbred, an average of 25% inbreeding (or something like that) so I’m not sure what a “good” COI would be :))Arabian sporthorses of the highest achievement • 271334 -
I don’t think there would be any problems! The inbreeding is in the fifth generation of the pedigree and is spread out across the pedigree, so I highly doubt that any undesirable genes would be concentrated enough to affect the foal.
Sounds like it will be a really nice foal! Nutcracker is awesome! Excellent quality stallion, so I’m sure his son will be very good quality as well :)I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!Thanked by 1Valedictorian
