  • I was thinking the same thing about the pasture foal image generation. I was very happy to hear about that new feature but if it's really that expensive for the game, then it isn't a big issue for me to leave foals without images until after testing and sorting out the keepers. Of course, the pasture breeding for profit deal is still an issue in its own right, besides the cost of image generation, so that's still going to need a fix. I don't mind pastures being limited to three times their capacity in foals, but if it were cut down to a single breeding allowed, I would worry about glitches were some mares get left out of breeding and might have to go empty that season, just because the pasture had already run. That would be my only issue with the restriction at this point.

  • @CLynnRose you've exactly described my thoughts on this! I just didn't know how to write it down in a good way, so thank you for doing that!

Someone at the beginning of this thread (Xzeina) suggested to make the automatic image generation an extra function that you'd have to pay for. I think that would be a great solution too. Like @pinkie said, you only care about the images from the foals that are good enough to pass. So I wouldn't mind to have the automatic image generation disabled again to relieve the costs and strain on the server.

Also, thank you Ammit for being so open about this with all of us and giving us the freedom to speak our minds about this and to take our words into consideration. To me, this is the perfect example of good 'game-ownership'!

  • I would just like to add some context here. I started playing this game at the end of 2009. Back then there were no pastures, all breeding was done by hand. The HAJ year lasted two real months and you could only breed for the first two weeks of the 'year'. The game had been designed for busy adults who didn't have time for the endless clicking that other online horse games required.

This game has always been about patience and taking the long view. The point has been made about new players being able to build up their herds. This community is hugely generous in helping players out with good show horses or hbs. There is no need, and no fun in my opinion, in churning out foals that you don't really want. It was the genetics that drew me to the game and keeps me playing.

One last point. Like many people, I don't like change, and I've often been disappointed when Ammit has made changes to the game. However, every time a change has been made and I've had a chance to get used to it, I have discovered that it has been beneficial. After all, I've been playing this game for over a decade, so Ammit must know what she's doing! :)

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

  • Image generation is not the only issue. The people doing the puppy mill breeding cost us in every way not just image generation and they cost YOU because they increase conversion rates for RGS genes. I am sure people have noticed the prices going up. That is because of those people printing money. That inflates the economy and makes everything in-game cost more.

So far the only people I have seen really opposed to this change were people who were grossly exploiting this. Someone was so pissed they could not cheat anymore they called me a dictator lol. Dictators are well known for just doing what the general population votes for. ;)

ETA: As far as image generation versus allowing an exploit to continue, I will always choose the side of users playing the game as intended. Image generation is intended behavior in the game, and not having image generating makes the game a less nice experience. Our goal always is to have all horses in the game have images and we will tweak things to make sure that is possible. :) I don't want to charge for background image generation, in fact my plan is to get it back working for everyone as soon as possible.

  • A dictator? Oh my gosh that's a pretty outlandish accusation. For people who are just outright exploiting that does need to stop, but to make it easier for new players to just hold on to their horses would you consider maybe increasing the size of the welcome pack barn to 30 or even 60 stalls so they aren't so immediately strapped for cash to increase their number of stalls? It might help with people who are selling horses just because they don't have room/don't have the hbs to get a new barn. Picking up your first new barn after the welcome pack barn can be a challenge and maybe that would help newer people with playing more as intended while possibly increasing their engagement since they could focus a bit more on starting a line, increasing their daily income or increasing their herd quality vs saving to get more stalls.
  • We have actually increased the size of new member accommodations many times over the years including giving them 20k in show points to get them started. We have not reduced the number of horses new players can hold with this change. :)

  • I don't get why people would be upset about this, pastures were made with that bonus inherent, you can only get the bonus if your mares are in the pasture for 30 days. Why cycle mares through multiple times a month? You're not using pastures in the intended way that way, you're just milling.

If you want more pasture foals, buy more pastures. It's a business as well as a game, you want to play the way you want you gotta pay the price ;)

I have a lot of pastures so I only breed them once a month, I even have extra pastures I don't use. When I use my pastures it's to get more breeding stock or show horses, and yes I do have high standards for each so I end up auctioning ~500 foals a month, but I always hold them to the end of the month for club awards and for them to get some points before auction so that other accounts can get their hands on pretty horses.
