how early can you detect good showing horses
-
I just sorted a bunch of 2 year olds and noticed that some have earned less than a point and others have earned up to 10. (and they're all fillies) are these numbers significant? this part of the games very mysterious to me. thanks in advance

Hi!
From what I understand, foals/yearlings have a completely random chance at winning or loosing classes. As foals/yearlings they may loose all of their classes or win them all, it is a roll of the dice. Foals/Yearlings do not train until they turn 2 years old. Since they don’t train, they won’t improve. Their training scores will stay the same until they turn 2 Normally (for me at least) I can see their show potential between 7-9 years. If they are not doing well by age 9 I cull them. However, there are a lot of factors at play.
I hope this helps some! :)

wow, 9 years! thanks!

for full lifetime earnings payout , you ll want to wait til they are 10 , generally thats more than 2500 which is minimum auction payout
-
To have a real idea of how good a show horse is, you should wait until they level off (quit training), 1 game year after their PT score. So a horse with a PT of 10 would level off around 11.
I also recommend not culling show horses until they are 10 or older. That’s when you can get their full lifetime payout and like annsimyrph said that can be a lot larger amount than 2,500. -
Yes - I agree with both statements above. I should have clarified that in my original post. Depending on the horse you can get 2-5 times the set auction amount of 2500. I’ve had some go over. I just change their name and put them into a auction barn at 9 if I see they aren’t preforming well. Another thing I forgot to add is, personally, I rarely keep show horses that are inconsistent. I have limited space right now and it’s best in the long run to keep those that are consistent.Thanked by 1fiddleroo

I start watching my 3yo to see how they are setting in the show ring. I use the rule of thumb that if they don't have a payout that matches there age or more then I either auction at 10 years of age or sell them for about there life time payout . So those 3 year Olds should be around 3,000 life time and increase as they age. However once a horse retires from training some land in a good spot and end up winning regularly. Those are some of what you see on leader boards for show points and are often your second generations.
* sometimes some horses just never do well as show horses and I'll often auction off horses over 4 years of age if they're life time payout is less than 2,500. But I leave anything 15 years and up in the barn as at that point there lifetime payout drops as they age closer to 20, BUT at that age you'll see a major increase in daily pay.
Like this guy I have here. He's 31 and gives me over 400 equus daily and he's still getting in good points.
Leading rank 3g
I made the mistake in the beginning by auctioning all my older horses off and keeping everything young and not prioritizing my show herd. The older horses that have retired from training are your bigger money makers. But why I am picky when they're aging from 3 to 10 is because if they don't do well in the beginning they don't have as much points build up when they are at that retired age and often don't have a good daily payout when they're in there prime ages. I remove the ones that don't show well so I have room to add ones that could be better giving me a stronger daily bonus.
Your foals and 2 year Olds are just starting out and for foals they only get 1 point for each win and its a 50/50 chance and it's possible that your foals have been competing against each other which is why you may have some that are doing better right now that the others. Hope this Info helps.Post edited by Brandybrookes at 2022-05-15 10:18:40 -
Honestly, anything with a PT over 9 will be able to bring in points from shows. I don't cull show horses until 10 years of age for lifetime payout. Anything placing well in a good level, like 7W, stays. Ones that end up maxing out in 8L get auctioned.
