Help me name my project ponies!
-
(farm log is here, for context)
So, I'm starting up a breeding program. I've been accumulating horses this month and I'm planning on producing my first crop of foals next month.
All my horses for the project are named with their ID number currently, but I'm planning on changing that.
In order for that to happen, I want each of the groups of mares/studs I'm breeding to have a theme. I will name the foundations I use in that group and any foals resulting from the group- including, 3rd gen and on, foals of studs of that theme- according to the theme that is given.
Themes would be something like: trees, gemstones, elements, etc.
There are 8 groups, each with one stud and two mares. Suggestions for a list of themes in general and suggestions of themes for specific groups are both acceptable.
Players whose suggestions I pick I will either give straws from a stud of their choice to, give HBS to (is 5K reasonable? I truly don't know) or if they want to negotiate something else they can.Alcean Ponies

what you're asking is pretty big. I love naming my horses. If I buy several at auction that don't have names, depending on my mood, I might give them tree names, flower names, Native American names, or goofy names or elegant names.
But one naming convention I really enjoy is simply looking at the parent's names (rarely the grandparents) and give the new colts names based on a little from each side. I come up with some fun, original names that way. Good luck.Post edited by Fiddler at 2022-09-24 08:20:19 -
Congratulations on your new breeding project.
Like Fiddler, I usually name the ones that I buy from the auction names from their parents.
When I name my own, I usually use the constellations and the stars within them but you can also use mythology (Egyptian, Greek, Nordic, Native American, etc.), Weather Patterns (Storms, Clouds, Lightning patterns), Television series, or other languages.
There are endless possibilities. I hope you have fun with your project,Thanked by 1TenaciTea -
I'm not the greatest at coming up with these, but if you don't get enough ideas here try googling litter name themes. A lot of breeders will name each litter on a theme and there are usually some fun ideas out there that could inspire you for your linesStarstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

For naming, I honestly just use the random name generator feature nowadays. It takes way too long to name horses individually now. My breeding mares just get my prefix, generation, line, and their ID number (EX: 3rd gen mushroom mare would be H3 Mu ID NUMBER). My stallions all get names and usually I pull the name from the RNG unless I think of a name I like on the spot. I'll even cycle through the generator a could times until I get a name I like. For my show ponies, they are either just left as their ID number or I again use the RNG to give them all crazy 2 worded names. My favorite in the past has been a gelding that got named "Extremely Pregnant" :))Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this for my pixel ponies, but for potential dog names I would use a farm theme- Duck, kabota, bee, dairy, tiller
But I have used names/species from mine or my husbands favorite movies- (lotr): Maiar, Ancalagon, Boromir; (tombstone): Virg, Morgan, Doc
Or even brand names of my husbands chew lol Epok, Gotland, Islay, LundgrenPost edited by Coppilane at 2022-09-27 13:57:54Thanked by 1TenaciTea -
