Real life question about shades of bay
-
Hello!
Are bay and brown shades derived (at least in part) from the genetic set on ASIP and MC1R?
I mean, does 1 or 2 copies of E plus 1 and/or 2 copies of A impact the shade in bay horses?
The only thing I know is that in 2020 it was published that a potential candidate acting in shades of bay was identified, though it was not exactly in the ASIP locus.

"from the genetic set "
Not sure what you mean by this.
There has been significant evidence that the zygosity of ASIP and MC1R have a strong impact on the final shade of bay/brown. However, there seem to be other factors at play as well.
