Gene Mod Lab Chimera Question
  • I'm sorry, I'm sure this information is out there already, but I had a hard time tracking it down! I'm interested in creating some foundation chimera studs for the first time and was wondering if people had more information about how this process works.

When you merge the two horses, does the second horse's genetic makeup create the second line of dna? I wasn't sure if the second horse's dna would be thrown out completely and the chimera would be randomly generated with a similar genetic make up to the first dna line.

I also wasn't sure if this process was refundable like other gene mod lab edits are.

Any insight would be welcome! Thank you so much!
  • Hello!

You're right: when you merge two horses to make a chimera, the second set of DNA will be the full genetics of the second horse.
A chimera consists of 2 DNA strands.

So for example horse 1, is EE aa To/To.
Horse 1 is your base horse.
Horse 2, the one you will merge with horse 1, is Ee AA wM/To.
The resulting chimera horse will have this on their genetics page:
    Primary DNA Set:
    EE aa To/To.
    Secondary DNA Set
    Ee AA wM/To

Would you take horse 2 as the base then the Ee AA wM/To will be the primary DNA set, and the secondary DNA set will be EE aa To/To (horse 1).

After making the chimera you have the possibility to set the Inheritance Chance per DNA set. 50/50% is standard. However, if you like the genetics from horse 1 better than horse 2 then you can set the inheritance to 100/0% or 75/25% (and vice versa).

Also, be aware that the papers and showscore of horse two will not be inherited. Horse 1 is your base, including their papers, PT score and all hidden numbers. Horse 2 that you merge into horse 1 will only give its genetics to horse 1, thus making a chimera. So pick the right horse as your base ('horse 1')!

I don't think it is refundable as the second horse that you will merge into the first will be completely gone/deleted. However, it has been quite some time since I merged two horses into a chimera myself, so I'm not 100% sure about this.

    Hope this helped you out!

  • Basically everything that MasterStablesMS said, but I can confirm that it is not refundable or reversable. Horse B will be permanently deleted from the game and there is no way to get Horse B back. Personally, I have never regretted a Chimera I paid to create.
I love Warmbloods with lots of Sooty and DP. Dark Mahogany Bays, Liver Chestnuts, and Blacks make me super happy. I love horses with color, dfp1, nd1, gray, GP, and KP on the dark base. One day I would like to have a herd of high pt, well papered dark beauties. ID# 257941
