Actually the rank of the herd helpers is based on how common the color and/or pattern is and how many creates and shares you get. Rank 1 is very common and gives the most creates and shares (I don't remember how many, but it is a lot). Rank 5 is the least common of the ordinary herd helpers and gives the fewest (6 starting creates and 5 shares with 1 bonus create each). There are also Rank Specials which are very rare, always at least perfect foundation (if not exceptional producer) and very specific in their color (or with extremely rare genes like sabino 1 or brindle), and only give 1 create and 1 share.


The era is determined by when the foundation line was created. All new creates will currently be era 5 unless they are exceptionals which are era 4.

I think gray is rank1, yellow 2, red 3, blue 4, gold 5, and special is different patterns and mixed colors.

Yes, 1st and 2nd ranks are just more common and 5th and special are the most rare.
