Training Question
  • Hey all! I'm fairly new here and I was searching through some of my mares and noticed one said that their training had leveled off. I was wondering what this exactly meant because I'm not too sure and I've seen some people talk about when horses level off but I don't really remember what they were saying.

Anywho... Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Horses level off when their weekly training no longer adds a significant amount to their show score. For the average foundations (with Performance Test results in the 9.* range) they will gain about 3 points with every training until they reach 9 years of age (10, maybe if they are neutered). Then they "level off" and add only very small fractions of a point with each training. They will remain at the same Level/Grade in showing for a very long time and, if they leveled off close to the top of their showing level, they may eventually level up one more grade before they age out of the game.

If your horse is younger than 9 and has leveled off, this means that its PT score was less than 9.0. An intact horse with a PT score of 2.* will level off at 2 years of age, at a very low showing level, but, if lucky, will still make a little money and gain a few points if you keep showing it.

A horse which has leveled off in a "good place" will typically be placing in the top half of its classes and will continue to gain points and profits for a very long time.

  • OK thank you.

This mare is only four years old and has been placing in the bottom half in the majority of her shows. Would she still be ok for breeding?
  • There is no connection between breeding ability and showing ability, especially in foundations. So yes, if she has passed Mare Advice and the Showing Aptitude Test, I would breed her and see how she does. When I first started playing HaJ1, I had a foundation mare with a PT around 2.3. She was one of my best foundation brood mares, and I ended up breeding her fairly often to exceptional producers. She papered Red, and before Ammit revamped the papering system to make it more realistic and balanced, she was Blue for a brief time. *G*
