I Wish I Knew...
-
What is the one biggest thing you know now that you wish you’d known when you started playing the game?
I’ll start! I wish I’d known that after you hold 20,000 points, your foundation creates no longer start out with points. -
I wish I would have held onto my high pointed creates instead of auction them off and focused on my show stock
-
I wish I'd known Chinchilla deletes red when expressed, and doesn't just add sweet dapplesID #238663, she/her pronouns
-
Well... I started playing the game like 8 years ago, so I'm an oldtimer compared to you two, but I do wish that I had bought into the new show system when it came out instead of auctioning my rejects off all the time. I probably would be able to afford more stuff in game than I do now. I now get 75k a day in show bonus, but it's been a slow climb.
-
Wish I knew how important barns were and how show horses were everything so instead of spending my million (yea that's right, million.) dollar jackpot all on breedable horses (cause I literally just joined the game it hasn't even been a week.) and I think one or two barns. (thank goodness at least.) I would have just bought a somewhat decent sized barn and fill it completely with show ponies.
-
Sensing a lot of show horse related regret here...
For me, too. People told me to build a show barn, and I did, just. Not as quickly as I built a breeding herd. Oops. -
I'm still learning. I'm glad I found this thread. :D
-
@Sugarbread, that’s great! That was exactly my hope when I created it.
-
I wish I’d built a show string while figuring out what genes I would like to breed, instead I just bred every horse I came across in a mad frenzy. If I’d just been patient and made a huge show string with all the hjb I was using on breeding horses, that way when I finally decided what I wanted to breed I’d have had the steady income to make it happen. Instead I’ve been trying to fix my error for the past couple months. (I’ve been playing over a year now)
I don’t think the older players can stress it enough just how important show horses are. -
The game I started playing has evolved so far that I’m not sure I can say I wish I knew.
One thing that has stayed the same throughout the years though is the minimum golden ratio of 3 show horses for every breeding horse.
Show horses are your bread and butter, money printing, under appreciated superstars.
I literally cheer every time I geld or spay a horse and think Cha Ching Cha Ching!
Each show horse sits and only costs you 1 stall and show expenses for its life time but it returns you daily show bonuses that do not take long to cover its own costs and some extras to pad your bank account for the money burners.
Your mares are your money burners. If you want higher quality foals from them they have to be in the pasture which reduces their showing experience so they are not racking up the points to add to your daily show bonus. If you leave them out the the pasture so you can show them then you will have higher rates of altered foals.
Each mare can have at least 13 foals in their life time (more of you do any artificial breeding or she survived rollover at 18) so over time they cost you at least the price of a 15 stall barn to house them and their foalsBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
I started with HJ1, but didn't like it because I could NOT figure out what all the abbreviations meant! I would look at the forum and not have a clue what people were talking about. I went over to the (now closed) western game and got in on the ground floor of its developement, so I learned as it grew. When it closed I pouted for a year, then came back to HJ2. By that time I had learned that THE fastest way to get going is to buy tons of HBs with cash, and get the show barn built up that way. It only took me 2 months to get the show horses I wanted and get into breeding. I know this isn't an option for everyone, but it's how I got going FAST. I mean 100,000 for $3.25? Yeah!
I do wish I had taken the time to learn the 'lingo' though. It was definitely a big part of what made me slow to come back. It's also why I put a list of abbreviations and terms in the FAQ, and why I make a big deal about keeping forum titles super simple.Post edited by ConfluenceStable at 2019-04-26 17:36:48

Wait, I don't see the option to buy 100k for $3.25, did the price go up?
@confluenceStable -
I wish I’d known to find out what I like genetics wise through my showing horses lol I have a lot of “extras” that don’t fit my breeding program now. I will have a heck of a show herd though just need to get bigger barns
