New Auction Payouts for Horses 10+, IV barn purchase cap and Archive Clean Up
  • A constant issue in the game is the sheer number of horses to be managed and processed. I have implemented a few game-changing features to help combat some of the sheer glut of horses in the game.

    Current Lifetime Payout
The other day I added the "Current Lifetime Payout" payout field to the horse page. This tells you how much daily pay a horse is estimated to earn if it dies at age 18 and earns no more points for the rest of its life. Basically, its how much a horse is worth as a show horse. This field should help members evaluate whether or not they should cull a show horse to make room for a better prospect. It will also help new members understand the value of their show horses. I expect this to result in an overall increase in the price of show horses which is a good thing for the economy as show horses are very underpriced.

    Auction Changes:
When you auction a horse that is over age 10 and has points you can now receive significantly more than 2500 for that horse. Horses age 10 and up will have their Current Lifetime Payout as the starting bid (if that amount exceeds 2500).

    Cons of doing this:
By selling a horse back to the game early you limit the total amount of payout that horse could have potentially received. Long term you will make less income by doing this.

    Pros of doing this:
Selling horses back early gives you a sizable cash injection right now, without having to wait many years for the payout. It's a great way to cull older horses and make room for younger better ones. While your overall daily income will drop, you can expect a reliable large chunk cash injection each season from this. This will be super useful for breeding, GMT projects etc.

Biggest pro? You can free up barn space for new horses, while still earning sizable income off of them, and help the game out. This change could eventually half the number of active show horses in the game without drastically decreasing member income thereby really helping the game out.

If you already have older horses in the auction house to will have to remove them from the auction and reenter them to see the new bid price. I will not be doing this for you. You entered those horses with the expectation of getting only 2500 for them, so getting the payout you expected to get in the first place is still fair.

WARNING: THE AUCTION WILL BE VERY CROWDED FOR SOME TIME. I MAY CLOSE ENTRIES EARLY. THERE MAY BE POSSIBLE ERRORS. FLOOD THE AUCTION AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    IV Barn Purchase Cap:
To help limit mega barns that result in excessive strain on server resources you can no longer purchase barns via IVs if you have more than 20k stalls.

    Archive Clean Up:
Our old archive clean up system wasn't the most effective and for years has been failing to properly clean up the backlog of deceased horses. I have reprogramed it and it is now aggressively removing horses who should no longer be in the game.

  • I really love this idea. But out of curiosity, could we just sell the horse back for that Lifetime Payout amount instead of having to wait on an auction?

  • Thank you, Ammit, for all of your hard work! I'm happy with these changes! Hoping to see new tack packs in the future (maybe backgrounds, martingales, fly masks, etc.)
  • Thank you so much for this new change! In the past, when you had discussed the load that the show horses caused, there was no proposed solution or alternative income to replace them, therefore I had no interest in letting any of them go, or slowing down my breeding. Now, I hope to balance my herd each month and maintain a footprint much smaller than my current one.

You guys are awesome, and somehow manage to keep us coming back daily. Or as often as our crazy lives allow for lol. We appreciate you!

  • Thank you for all your hard work, Ammit and Haystack!

The only downfall I see is that the mega barns that have already exceeded 20k stalls will always dominate since the rest of us will never be able to attain that without spending a ton of real money. It's already a struggle to catch up stall-wise since the IV cost increase was imposed after some of these barns were already huge. That said, I know it'll help the game in the long term so I can't be too upset about that! Goodness knows I probably wouldn't have the time to manage that size barn anyway.

I'm very excited about these changes overall. :) I've always culled each season, especially my yearlings, simply because I can't afford to buy a mondo barn with the IV increase. I always felt bad about losing potential show money with them, but since the 20k maximum with IVs is imposed, I won't feel so guilty about culling so much! I have less than 6,000 additional stalls as it is, but this will encourage me to auction some of my "eh" show horses when I want to finish a GMT project or buy a new barn.

  • I think this is an awesome move. For a brand new player like me it will be really nice to have the option for a near-immediate cash payout of a horse's worth to bump up my HJBs when needed, while still having a daily income. And of course it will be fabulous to free up the servers and clean up excess to make the game more efficient. Thank you!

  • My question would be, how do I use this info to determine who I cull and who I keep?
  • It's up to you. You can either sell them and get paid now, or keep them and get the daily payment

  • Would it be possible to add the Current Lifetime Payout as a category to each barn's overview page as it would aid a lot in throwing horses into the auction en masse as opposed to having to open each horses page to check the amount?
  • Eventually but it is complicated to do and not possible without database modification.

  • Poor database, it's had a difficult couple of weeks. It just needs a little time to itself! :p

  • Thank you for this incentive for me to cull my "older-but-lower-pointed" show ponies. I have no reason to keep the 15 year olds with > 600 points anymore.

  • Do purchased stall count against to 20,000 limit to buy more stalls with IVs? What about pastures? I am incredibly far from that limit, I just like to be prepared :)
  • Yes to purchased barns. The system can't tell the difference, but no one with 20k stalls is only buying with cash. No to pastures. They never count against your stall total.
