Am I the only one that does this?
-
Please tell me I am not the only one that comes up with better ways to name/describe my horses?
I was doing:
Name-Gen-Color
Now I am going through and doing:
Color-Gen-Even/Uneven-Name
Example:
L 4G UE BlameThePrettyBoy
Liver-4thGen-Uneven bred-NamePlayer ID #239177. Breeding Rosales Warmblood Horses. Liver, Chocolate, KitM, Phantom Autumn. -
Right now I do Gen-Name-Special colour
So: 2G All The Cool Stuff hSF hGP
(Heterozygous Snowflake, heterozygous Gulastra’s Plume)
I’ve switched to marking generations as Px1, Px2, etc.
If I want to remember that a horse has produced offspring above their paper level (to help with culling at a glance) I might prefix their name with “zz.”
All my uneven horses get named as Bootstrap-name. -
I have only 2 lines: the high PT and everything else.
The high PT gets the prefix ZO (short for Zolotaya Orda, my barn name).
Everything else gets the line prefix x and a letter according to their generations. All foundations gets a name that begins with A, 2. gen gets names that begins with B, 3rd gens the letter C etc.
That way I know what generation the horse are just by looking at their names, without adding anything more to it.
-
I do it like this:
1. KP or GP is they have it (I don't do GP on this server anymore though)
2. M+the number I use for the line (1 is brown, 2 is DP, 3 is satin and 4 -was- snowflake)
3. Name
4. Generation
So names will look like:
KP M2 Horsey McHorse 3G (homozygous KP, in my DP line and 3rd gen)
Kp M3 Pony McPonester 2G (heterozygous KP, in my satin line and 2nd gen)
kp M1 Stud McStudly 5G (possibly KP, in my brown line and 5th gen)
or
M2 John 4G (no KP, in my DP line and 4th gen)
(Why yes, I am very creative, thanks for asking :-)) )
I do not need colors or anything else in the name, as I always use the search when I breed, and I color test everything, so I have all the info I need available. I just need what I have to make searching easier. I always start with the highest generation and when I get to 4th gen I start narrowing the search. First I'll search for "KP M3 4G", then "KP 4G", then "M3 4G", then "M1 4G", "M2 4G" and lastly just "4G". That is the same order as I have my studs listed in the notepad (on my laptop) I use to plan breedings, and makes breeding so much easier and manageble.ID 195859 -
ehh mine are pretty simple, I use gen-name-colour and occasionally gen-paper-name colour. Though i really only use the colour part for satin (SA hom, sa het), KP (hom) kp (het), DP for ones that it isn't super obvious, ect ect.
eg 1 Prometheus KP (foundation hom for KP)
2r Fearless CH (r for red papered. 95% of my 2g mares are Blue so i isolate the red ones so i know that they are lower quality. blue mares are simply '2') CH for hom chinchilla
3G Fawkes NS (G for gold papered, as only some of my 3rd gen mares are gold, most are blue. again blue 3rd gen mares are just '3' NS is for No Show, for my broodmares who leveled off in a bad place and are taken out of an auto show barn).
there's also some that are suffix'd with 'gmt' 'boost' so that they are easy to find later when i am ready to fix them up lol.
my way is more simple than others i guess, i don't really have any desire to add my stable prefix or anything, so i have more character spaces for the names haha!HJ1: 133971 -
I use my farm initials with the Gen, color or special gene, ID number and paper level. So mine look like WF1 ZzEe saSa # Red. It tells me that it's a 1G, silver black, het satin, red papered mare. I use the number because I have multiple of the same color, like livers or silver blacks.Chuck help me resist the Shiny babies.... Chuck says I'm on my own. :'(
Bluegrass - 168661
Forest - 415
Mesa - 117 -
I use gender, generation, special gene, name/number, gene notes (I’m transitioning my homo KP marker from the back to the front in the special gene spot so right now its all over but when I’m done the end 2 letters will be for axiom genes and het kp.
JLa KP 16384852 would be 2nd Gen mare homo KP.
JSc AX 374752 B would be 4th Gen het axiom B studBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
I do as follows:
My prefix MS, then the generation number, the name of the horse after that the genes they have, with a h in front of it if they are homo for it and a p if they could be carriers but are not confirmed yet (possible). SF = Snowflake, GP = Gulastra Plume, KP = Kitpromotor, SAT = Satin, DP = Dense Pheomelonin, PLD = Plaid, NEX = Nexus, and sometimes i+number for the ice they have (i9 = ice 9, i8= ice 8 etc). However, sometimes it doesn't all fit so i often leave DP out in that case ;')
I also often try to come up with names that seem to follow logically from their parents names, so I'll know from what line the horse is.
So it will be like:
MS2 SuperDoomed SFGPDP (2gen mare, probably from my stud Super Silver, hetero for snowflake, GP and DP)
MS3 YouvalancheGPhSFSATKP (3rd gen stud, hetero for GP, homo for Snowflake, Satin, and KP) He is also homo DP but that couldn't fit is name so was left out :')
MS3 ThinMunster hSATpSFKP (3rd gen, homo satin, possible snowflake and/or KP carrier).
If they could be carriers of some genes I put in their notes from which parent they could have got it, so like this last mare: "HOMO SATIN!
Possible KP, DP and/or Snowflake carrier, dad = hetero for all"
And ofcourse I change their name if they are confirmed carriers, as well as put it in their notes.
However, I do have so many horses now that I might want to step over to an easier system with more numbers and letters, to speed up the naming. However, I do like my horses to have 'real' names, so not sure when this will happen yet :')
I did change my showhorse naming over the years tho: just MS + generation number, SHOW, and ID number. Sometimes if they have nice genes I put that in there as well or if they are super stunning I give them a 'real' name.HJ1 160524

I do a couple of different methods, depending on the lines I'm using. My primary line is PPN (Generation) (ID#) (x for non-breeding stallions) (Superior to sire, if applicable) (homDP if applicable), so I have things like PPN G1 8256188 x Superior. All of my non-breeding stallions I GM into mares as soon as I can afford it, thankfully my lines are still small enough that that's not impossible.
Then for my bootstrap lines, it's PPN X (Generation) (ID#) (Watercolor if applicable), with G0 being foals out of my watercolor stud and ExShow foundation mares, so that my bootstrapped foals get some fun color as well.
With both groups, foundation horses that are extraordinary (my starter studs, ExPro liver mares) get the PPN F (ID#) designation, whereas other foundies are just PPN (ID#).
For things like auction fodder, I just leave them the ID#. They won't exist long enough for it to matter, unless someone happens to buy them, in which case they can do whatever naming convention suits them!ID #238663, she/her pronouns -
I use tattoos for PATN, sooty, liver, champagne, and sire lines. Use real names on my horses and letters for generations.
-
I have tweaked my naming system over time but i like where its at now :)
For the purpose of explaining;
# = ID Number
X = Random Capital Letter
a = Random Lowercase Letter
N = Random Number
G stands for Generation
I use HS as my prefix for all my horses
Show horses are all just "HS #"
Breeders are a bit more complicated
"HS NG # XaXa" is the gist of it
HS is the prefix
NG is what generation the horse is (1G for foundation, 2G for second gen and so on. My boostrap horses have SB in place of the 1G/2G/etc)
# Is the horses ID number (Mares are labeled with ID numbers but stallions get actual names in place of the ID number)
XaXa represents what genes the horse has. I use letters of the alphabet (and numbers) to represent certain genes that i breed for. Capital letters represent Homozygous and lowercase letters represent heterozygous.
This is the gene alphabet i use. I use this for both servers so some of the genes on this list i don't own over here but i own every gene on the other server:
Aa - Nacre
B - Brindle
Cc - Chinchilla
Dd - DP
Ee - Splash 3
Ff - Frame
Gg - GP (Server 1) Gray (Server 2)
Hh -
Ii - Ice (followed by number of what ice it is)
Jj -
Kk - KP
Ll - Plaid
Mm - Splash M
Nn - Snowflake
Oo - ND1
Pp - Pearl
Qq - Satin
Rr - Watercolor
Ss - Sooty+
Tt - Thunderstruck
Uu - Mushroom
Vv - Nexus
Ww - Wrong Warp
Xx - Axiom
Yy -
Zz -
3 - White 3
4 - White 4
8 - White 8
10 - White 10
So an example:
This guys name is "HS 3G On Guard sQKD" He is a 3rd gen colt. The little s means he is het sooty+, and the capital 'QKD' means he is hom satin(Q), KP(K), and DP(D). :)
