Training and Levelling Off
-
-
Hes getting close to leveling so hes slowimg down on earning points
-
He’s earned no points at all in the past month, and only one the week prior to that - he’s not slowing down, he’s stopped. Seems as though he’s already leveled off, even though he still shows as in training and hasn’t aged to where he should.
-
I'd say that he's so close to leveling off that he's only adding a tiny fraction of a point with training. I've seen this happen myself with higher PT horses. He's showing at 8 World, the highest level, so you could say that he's reached the peak of his ability.
His PT score is 13.2, and the highest possible PT scores are now 15.1, so it's not surprising if he's reached his peak before the top of the 8W classes.
At least, this is my guess as to what is happening. If I'm wrong, I expect Ammit may be along in a bit to correct me. She usually does. -
So, what is the advantage of having a 13.2 PT gelding who levels off at age 12 over a 12 PT intact stallion who also levels off at age 12?
-
Points mostly. Train as high & earn as much as you can, you dont where they level auction them. Anything over 10 years sells for its LTE (>2500)
-
Seems like these two horses would earn the same in points to me, since this boy effectively leveled off so early. Just trying to see the difference.
This guy is contrary to what I’d previously understood, that a horse levels off at about its age, or about a year (month) later if it’s spayed/gelded, so there has to be a new bit of info in here that I’m missing. There are horses with lower PT than he has who scored higher in his shows, which really threw me for a loop, since I thought for a brief moment that he’d somehow hit a max score for his PT.Post edited by LenasHollywood at 2019-05-27 04:58:35 -
But your gelding boy hasn't leveled off yet; he is still 'trained for the week'.
The 12 PT stud that is leveled off won't gain any more points to improve his score, at most he'll get super tiny fractions of a point (for example 1/30th) that might result in him scoring 1 point higher in a few real life months or even a real life year, but it won't be much more.
Your 13.2 PT gelding is still in training so still improves his score. As you see on his records tab, he suddenly seems to have 'stopped' improving, sitting at a score of 304 over the last few weeks. However, as he is still in training, he is still improving his score. What you see in his score is that he will level off soon, as he doesn't improve with the high amount he used to do, but he is still improving! Again, might be a fraction of a 'whole' score point (for example 1/6th), but more than the 12pt stud.
Another thing that influences how a horse shows is his 'starting' score, some start showing with -1, others with 0, others with 2 or even 4 scorepoints. That also influences in what class the horse ends up and how high his score will be. Also, geldings and spays stay in training longer, thus improving their scores longer.
Another thing that could be why the 12PT stud scores higher is that he could be inconsistent: this results in a wider range of showscores, sometimes being on top and sometimes being lower.
And finally, and maybe most importantly: showing is also a bit about luck! Just like RL, some horses perform better than others. It can be the luck of the draw, as well as who you are competing against!
For example I have these three 18yr old horses, two geldings and a spayed mare.

The geldings have been gelded for their entire life. One has a PT of 10.2 and is consistent, the other a PT of 10.3 and is consistent. The spayed mare has always been a mare, I just spayed her today. She has a PT of 10.3 and is consistent.
As you can see, the first 10.2 PT gelding has as score of 181 right now. The second 10.3 PT gelding has a showing score of 183. And the spayed mare has as score of 182.
However, the 183 score boy places last more often than the other two; he's in shows with horses who score even higher. That same 10.3 PT gelding thus has less points (and thus less daily bonus) than the other two horses.
Therefore, I wouldn't lose that gelding just yet. Just wait till next season untill he is really leveled off to evaluate how he does in his shows. And even if he is not placing 1st, as long as he is not placing last he will still earn points for you and thus add to your daily bonus! And if he does turn out to be bad or not earning enough for your stable, you could always put him in the auctions and get his daily payout for it.

Thanks for the explanation. I think I will stop chasing high PT when I breed like I had been since it clearly doesn’t make near as much difference as I thought.

He is already leveled. You can see it in the points. There is no slow down. The indicator is just incorrect.
A horse with a 13.2 PT levels off later than one with a 12 PT. The idea of PT = level off age isn't actually real. I never programmed it to do that.Need to contact me? Read this first.
