I'm really struggling with this one, so this is my very first *star homebred colt. Well this season I have bred him 9 time to the highest of PT Blue mares and not one, not one of his foals has passed testing. So my delima is should I geld him? Hes superior than his dad, higher PT than his dad and higher paper than his dad. I just do not know what to do.Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle. -
What you're probably experiencing is the fact that the mares aren't quite as good quality as he is. A *Star-papered stallion is the equivalent of a *Gold-papered mare. If all he's seeing are blue-papered mares, there's a wider gap between their breeding abilities and so it's a bit harder for the foals produced to be strong enough breeders to pass testing. This becomes more and more the case as you get higher in breeding generations; I had a couple of stallions who only got a handful of intact babies a year because their ability was so high that the bar was so high. There's also a bit of a random element in play; even under ideal circumstances, I think my intact/altered ratio ends up being 1 in 5.
Also, the gelded/spayed foals these guys produce make fantastic show horses. -
Why would you geld him? The problem is that he is enough higher in breeding ability than the blue mares that it is hard to get intact foals. 9 tries isn't very many, especially if the mares didn't have a full 30 days of pasture bonus. He would be more likely to produce intact foals if bred to low *Gold papered mares, but if you don't have any, be sure to get as much pasture bonus on your blue mares as you can, and expect that he will mostly produce show horses.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

thing is @LakeOndowaFarm I don't have any blue 4th gen mares, I used outside mares who were consistant, high PT.Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.

PT tells about the horse’s show ability but has nothing to do with breeding. I would try pairing him with several *Gold papered mares before passing any judgment, since, as mentioned above, they would be closer to the same breeding ability he is, so more likely to produce an in tact foal.

You could always put a wanted ad for 4G gold mares for breeding or eggs if you can use them. :)

Oh, good idea!

Are you using pastures to breed, he's obviously better quality than the mares, however there is still no reason you can't use Blue mares with him. Just that the foals will likely have to paper Star/Gold to pass testing. I'd use your 30 pasture bonus for the mares and you'll be more likely to get foals to pass. I often use Star papered gen4 stallions with my blue papered gen4 mares

Ah ok, I could put some Golds and Blues up for stud for you if you wanted? Yeh much harder to get intact with non pasture breeding but you never know!

Could I possibly borrow them from you orrrr?Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.

How much would the be put to breed for?Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle.

I put them up in my chat group, the gen4 mares, just breed to any or all of them, not that many golds there, but most of the blues should be fairly high blues

A lot of my Golds have fantasy genes so I can't put them up, but as I say you are welcome to breed to any there
