Let's bring back the sweet stallion ads of the past. Come of the 1st of the year members are asked to post elaborate stallion ads in the "breeding ads and sales section". Get as fancy as you would like. Bonus points for decorating your stable page to match.

You do not need to stand super fancy stallions plain Jane foundations are fine, or mares for breed etc. As long as it is ads for breeding. Judging will be based completely on your ad here are the rules.

Judging Criteria
The nature of the horses will not be judged, fancy or not, mares or stallions are fine.
Names, images (tack/backgrounds, hard drawn art/logos etc) will factor in judging.
Horses must be up for PUBLIC breeding. Straws or LC is fine but everyone must be allowed to breed to them.
Excessive stallion rules will count against. If you don't want a stud's line public use a stud/studs you care about less.
The over all theme, appearance, effort etc will all count towards selecting the winner.
Entries must be posted between the 1st and the 5th of September. No entries will be accepted after the 5th.
Entries must be posted in breeding ads and sales, but test posts can be made in the Non HAJ Discussion section.

How judging works
All members are encouraged to check out the entries and hit "thanks" on what ever entries they want to vote for.
Members can vote as many times as they like.
50% of the score will be member votes and 50% will be as selected by Ammit.
At least 10 ads must be posted for the full 3.5 mill to be awarded.

If you did a single image you would not be able to have links to the horses. Think less magazine ad more single page website.

Having seen the cool ads of the past I would love to participate in this but I just can't fathom how they were done. HTML, like you used to have to do creating a Craig's list or Ebay ad before they made it user friendly? So the images that you want to use could be stored on Photobucket or Flicker?

Anybody want to write a quick tutorial on "how to". 'Cause when Ammit says "If you did a single image you would not be able to have links to the horses" it's greek to me... you can't just insert a link? I am so not bright enough.

I've also always wanted to do my stable page but i could never find anyone who did one to look at and get an idea. Anybody out there have a stable page to look at?

I used to have fun with these. The way I did it was start out with categories, freshmen, foundies, generation etc. Then I would post my stallions picture with name and link, then stats like paper, genetics, parentage, then the price for lc and straws. Just put what you look for in potential stallions

Ok, so I would love to take part in this contest, but am stu-pid when it comes to things as this, though I would really like to learn. So first off, would one have to start on the forum page? Or do you use a program (such as notepad), that you can later copy & paste onto the forum? Sorry if this is a goofy question, but one has to start somewhere, lol!

You could absolutely start with Notepad or Word. Get your words laid out where you what them. Know that while images can be aligned to the right, everything else will be aligned to the left, no centering.

Once you have some of what you want written out, test it out in the Non-HAJ section of the forum. There's easy buttons to add pictures or links where you want them, and you can click the Simple Html link below for more information about using html. And if you have a specific question, ask! There is always people willing to help out. :)

The thing I haven't seeing seeing people do that I really miss from the old adds was custom graphics to really add flourish. Not talking about horse images but things like headers, bookends on either side of the images, logos for the horses etc. The things that made the ads really pretty.

HTML for the layout, text etc and the images are created in an image editing software like paint, photoshop, GIMP etc. (Pixlr is free and easy to use https://pixlr.com/editor/) You definitely don't have to make your own art either lots of free art out there. Like from here https://openclipart.org/

Just make sure you take art from sites that allow you to use their stuff. And you should upload your images to a photo host like http://imgur.com/

Sadly no matter how much I tried I couldn't figure out why Kids on the Run isn't centered, I'm going to keep trying. Also I had color text in my editing phase and it worked but its not showing up now.

You are trying to use style tags and header (h tags). Try using font tags instead. I doubt CSS will work well on the forum and what you do use is going to fight with the site wide CSS. The side has it's own CSS for h tags so it's going to be overwriting your stuff. You also are using center tags for every single element. Just have one center at the top that is all you need. Opening and closing it over and over is just going to fight with you. :)

I took a look and fixed the link that would not show for you. You where missing a >

You also can get rid of all the br tags. They aren't needed on the forum. :)

Ooh okay, last year I took a part of a programming in html, I never learned the CSS, and basically all I learned was little bits and pieces.

Oh thank you I didn't see that. I tried to do that at the end but I ended up missing a lot of them and got all messed up.

All that style stuff you put in is CSS. That is what they are teach now and is what you should be doing for building websites but forums are kind of their own beasts and run on old rules. I don't use font tags for the game for example but it still is the best bet for the forum. -First I removed the doctype, html, br, p and body tags. Those aren't needed here.
-Then I removed all the center tags and replaced them with a single tag at the top.
-I changed the H tags to font tags to prevent CSS conflicts. The H tags where getting larger and larger in number. This makes the font smaller with each number increase. I assume that was not the intent so I left them the same size. The + or - on the font can be changed to make them smaller though
-I made the images and names of the horses links using the a tag (and removed the u tags from the names since that was not needed with the a tag)

Here is the code with those changes made.
