    ᴅᴇɴsᴇ ᴘʜᴇᴏᴍᴇʟᴀɴɪɴ:

    (ᴀʙʙʀᴇᴠɪᴀᴛɪᴏɴ: DP) Or, in other words, that elusive and mysterious darkening gene that everyone's always talking about.

    "Inheritance studies and cloning have proven that how dark or light a horse’s coat ends up is determined by genetics. This is likely the result of many different genes but in the game it has been simplified to two. Sooty influences eumelanin (black pigment) and pheomelanin (red pigment) while dense pheomelanin only influences pheomelanin (red pigment)." - HAJ Genetics Guide

    Statistics:
    → DP is categorized as a common gene in the Roving Gene Sales (RGS). When added using this method DP appears as d>>D (not to be confused with dun).
    → It costs $10.00 per strand or 20 GMT tokens in the GMT lab. When added using this method DP appears as ?>>?.
    → There is an unknown chance for DP to appear in any create, however the following Rank Special herd helpers guarantee at least one copy of DP:

    Note: This color has caused me a lot of trouble in compiling the horses for the Codex because regardless of how many DP genes a dun horse has, the amount of dilution on the base coat in certain rerolls (those with strong dun expression) will appear the same.

    Some rerolls with a milder dun expression and less dilution will occur in which the darkness of the base coat can be used to assist with the determination of DP.

    This is especially difficult with horses that have silver, which dilutes the black pigment that may be present on legs and primitive markings.

    Here is a link to a Cherry Drop (hom DP) mare of @bluchrystals with a very light expression.

    Note: Even a hom DP liver red dun can have a diluted base that will be the same pale shade as the het DP example provided above. The primitive markings (dorsal, shoulder stripe, muzzle, and legs) as well as the mane and tail, however, will appear almost black on a hom DP liver red, where they are distinctly brown on a het DP.

    This is wonderful! I can't wait to see all the missing pictures filled in. If I could be sure of my own horses genetics I'd see if I had some examples to add.

    @ CLynnRose, yesss I've been calling this my DP Bingo project because I have an excel doc where I've been checking off each color and boy is it satisfying to see those boxes get ticked! I've been using my Freaky Friday stud so I know all of his babies are het :D

    Thanks for doing all this effort Peachtree! I know doing this can take a lot of time so thanks for investing that. This really will help everyone out who likes to breed DP or get to know more about DP!

    Do you only want to use your own horses or do you want horses from others to fill in the gaps? If that's the case, I'm more than happy to help!

    Anyway, as a token of appreciation for all your efforts so far (and the efforts you will make in the future probably) I'll send you some straws of my DP studs shortly to further your progress :)

    No, I am more than happy to fill in the blanks with horses from other players while I try to collect them all myself (any bone, as long as they don't have much white), I should probably add that somewhere :D

    @TawnyEclipse Thanks :D Hmmm, I definitely have considered adding S+ examples, but at this point... actually I'm already leaving out quite a few of the more nuanced colors just so it's not totally overwhelming.

    This is Amazing! As I was looking through I saw "Good Morning Sunshine" bred by me on my McNuggets account. My my he's beautiful! Sometimes you sell a horse, and it gets all GMT'D, and name changed you won't ever find it again. Kinda cool seeing him now lol :x
