What is considered a large barn? How many horses do you have? I currently own 245.Post edited by Abbey98 at 2015-09-25 17:00:44

The most I ever had I was pushing 10k just in breedable mares, and I had way more show stock than breeding stock. Like.... I had two mondo barns and like 60 other barns and they were all stuffed. I have no clue how many I had when they were all filled. (I've sold off some barns since then.)
But yeah, "large" stables get very large around here.

I have 243, and have been here for 5 years haha. I like to keep it small apparentlyHJ1: 133971Thanked by 1Corvus

I currently have around 1500 horses total. I still feel like I have a smaller barn.

I've been here 5 years too and I have a very tiny barn compared to you guys. Finances is mostly why I haven't been able to grow my barn.

Not criticizing/calling you out here but I want to point out that thinking you can't advance in the game because you can't afford real life spending is a myth. I want to nip it in the bud so new players don't think it has to be that way.
A brand account has 25,000 hbs. At the moment I am giving away a 15 stall barn and 25,000 to ever new account so that is 50k and 35 stalls per for each new user.
Simplest way to make money is to create and dump in the auction (auctioning yields a net profit because of the lottery) it's not guaranteed and is a grind so I will move past that.
With 50k you can create 20 mares. Mares standing public at 1500 to 2000 hbs are always used up as et recip mares by the end of breeding season. That is 30,000 to 40,000 in guaranteed income every single month. In addition these mares an be shown and earn points.
With in one season you now have enough money to fill the 15 stall barn. (faster if you watch for deals on the sales board).
With that barn full you make 52k to 70k per season, that is enough to buy a new 15 stall barn every single season.
You should off of that income be able to add additional barns and mares every season (including filling your pasture for extra income) and with in a few seasons be making enough money to buy a basic upgrade (only 375,000) with ease.
None of this even factors in points from showing or weekly pay or anything else. No it's not the most fun way to play the game but there is no reason why a player can't dedicate a percentage of their income each season to expansion and building passive returning income. If someone really wants to have a big barn they can do so, having real life money has nothing to do with it.
Find a profit stream and just keep investing in it until you build what you need.
(also a good lesson for making money in real life too)

Just to second what Ammit said, I am currently working retail to help put hubby through college.Post edited by Redbud at 2015-09-27 11:45:39Thanked by 1Abbey98

The game is all about patience and long term planning.
Or...you can pay "impatience taxes"...also know as "infusions". Which Ammit doesn't mind for sure, but are not needed. -
I always put aside about half of my monthly income from my showing bonus toward buying barns with IVs. Doing this, I am able to still do the breeding I want and keep all of my foals, which will further increase my showing bonus down the road. Now, when I want to spend RL money it can be on things like GMTs and pastures!Imation Stud ID# 2609

The person in the game with the most stalls (not including primary barn) has 24,275 stall slots. They paid for with real money a grand total of *get this* 180 of those stalls. Over 24,000 of those stalls where purchased with IVs. So yep the idea they you much have real money to have a giant barn is a total myth.Need to contact me? Read this first.

That's impressive, and inspiring to hear Ammit! I've got 1168 or so, and approaching 40% being altered. I'm extremely thrilled with my bonus, and have just shifted into a saving mode. I'm really pleased with the purchases I made with real money, that have helped prepare my game to be "self-sustaining". As always, thanks owed to Ammit for giving us this awesome community, game, and the ability to play for free, with out starving for hb's and space.Go boldly, where no App has gone before!

Whoops, I currently have 1976 horses :o
(And haven't done much breeding yet...)
1892 of them are stallions or mares :p But they can show as well!
I have never spent any real money on this game (yet? ;P). I've wanted to many times but unfortunately I don't have a credit card so I can't. But even if I could, it isn't necessary at all!
I must say I can play the game the way I want without paying too much attention on my money (sometimes I'm tight but I never get real broke), and I can expend my barn every season (wich is necessary because more horses = more foals worth keeping xD). I currently have 65 add on barns, most of them 15 stables, but the last few seasons I only bought 30 stalls or 60 barns.
It's just a matter of not overspending (why breeding with a 500k stud when you can breed with a similiar stud for like 10k or something [good searching]) and keeping in mind that there are many ways of making profit. Showing, but also just breeding your own horses to auction them off (which is what I do sometimes when tight on money), or putting up horses for breeding that you don't use yourself or wouldn't mind being used by others.
What helps for me personally is also keeping a limit, like saying I don't want to get any lessthan 750.000 hbs on my bank account.
And then you'll have money left so that you can buy more stables and thus more horses and thus make more money!HJ1 160524

See that's the dilemma I face. I show my breeding stock now that showing has been revamped. Unfortunately, all my mares of breeding age are in pastures for the breeding bonus so I can improve my lines generation by generation. So I estimate at least 75% of my potential show horses are in pastures which do not show.
So I am looking at having to choose between money income and line progression. -
I'm curious why 75% of your stock is breeding stock, Forestshadow. Do you not keep your spays/gelded foals? Because that's where the money is. They're create-and-forget horses. Stick them in a barn as babies and turn on auto-shower/hit the 'enter all' button as often as you can and otherwise ignore them.
That's how you make money.
I wrote a really long essay for the old forums about how the secret to having $$ in this game is to have more horse. Since the showing system was revamped, that's about 500 times more true now than it was before.Post edited by Stone Silo Farm at 2015-09-29 11:22:24 -
I have about 1900 horses and I'm about half and half spelds to intact. I have just the one 100 acre pasture which isn't quite full and one 120 stall auction barn which doesn't show but everything else is autoshow. I make about 270k a week from the bonus. I also keep almost every foal I breed.
-
Altered or neutered is the term you want. Speld is not a real word. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

I don't keep the altered foals because I don't have the barns for them.
-
If you prioritize show stock over all those breeders you would have enough hbs to have barns :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

Thank you for sharing the number of horses you have. Also thank you to Ammit for sharing some pointers. :)
