I think the announcement is telling us that next Monday will be a special Blackout day for creating horses, which means that no matter what the Daily Herd Helper is, the horses created will all be black.

I'm too ancient to get the Max Metal reference, though. :D

If you're interested in black horses, you may want to save hajibucks for a create spree.

Yes! Grullo is technically a black dun
But I've created Blue Roans on blackout create days so I'm not understanding the difference between dun and roan in this scenario

Okay the kit gene thing I can understand now.. but the champagne, silver etc are all alterations on a Black coat, the same as grullo is an alteration on a Black coat

I understand @LakeOndowa, I wasn't sure if someone here had a better understanding as to why... I figured if the horse was EE aa, Ee aa or eE aa then the rest of the genes wouldn't matter since any other coat modifiers would still be a genetically black horse

Because I didn't want it to make grullos.

so just to clarify, Monday I can click on any HH and it'll be a black base horse with whatever pattern the HH says?

Looks like gray is excluded by the blackout. There are several horses that came from normally gray herd helpers with the blackout tattoo and none of them are gray:
