I need some inspiration for redoing my tack on a few of my projects (OCD and insomnia have me redoing tack on over 700 horses every 3 months...)

So far I've done my show horses and my livers so that leaves my KP, cherry drops and chinchilla...

I like to see all of the beautiful coat patterns, so I rarely tack up with any of the saddles or blankets or anything. My go-to is definitely pewter backdrop (it goes with everything :)))plus long & luscious or button & pinwheel braids.

The way I tack my horses is each generation gets its own theme color, style of grooming, and background. Mares get a different shade than stallions; except for my 4th gen foals. They all get black.

In tact horses are only tacked up with a halter and blanket and mane and tail groomed. My show herd gets hoof polish, polo wraps, bridle, and dress blankets with mane and tail groomed according to they generation.

I do a background and long and luscious mane and tail on all my horses.. each breeding program has it's own background...

But my Chinchilla line is what's causing me issues.. nothing but Pewter looks good and I already have Pewter on my Cherry Drops..

I usually pick a random background from the Summer refresh tack pack and then find a matching tack piece to go with it. They all have a pinwheel tail, but for manes WBs get a fancy running braid, RH and RP's get button braids, and Drafts get natural manes.

Drafts and WBs get a a color coordinating chocolate leather bling bridle to go with their background

I'm also one of those people that don't really use saddles and other tack on alot of mine, as I like to see more of the patterns. Especially KitM and splash frame. :)

@Bambi So it sounds like you're mostly trying to mix up the backgrounds, which tack packs are you missing? That's why I overuse the heck out of pewter, I love it with the Cherry Drops too.

But if you're looking to change up your cherry drop backgrounds, Poppy Field might be nice?

Witching Woods has some nice cool tones to balance out the dark reds and browns.

Not a bay but I think Twilek goes well with the more natural colors?

Not sure if any of that is helpful :)) I used to try to separate lines by background but found that I like reusing the same tack over and over.

A while ago, Ammit had a contest to create a team of 8 horses with coordinated tack. I chose to select 8 of my plaid neuters and give them the same background and tack items, using colors for each one selected from that horse's plaid pattern. You'll have to scroll through the list to see them.

I use the Dark Background on my lighter colored horses:

Most horses get a bridle (maybe reins, depends on the bridle), and either splint boots or bell boots. Rarely I'll put on polos but I do find them cute on some of them. And a few of the plain coats will get saddles and pads. I love the classic black and white dressage sets on dark horses, it looks so stylish haha. I'm probably going to go through and color code my generations soon. But that'll call for a sleepless night (I'm with you on the insomia @Bambi207 )

My studs generally all get a cleaned up, a bridle and a background to complement their color.

So here are my tacked up pixels...

My Liver/Chocolate herd gets the Amethyst background with long and luscious mane and tail and I tried the build a bridle just to see how it would hold over (I like clean horses so up until now all of my horses have been bare)

This is where things get tricky because I want a look that's going to make the Chinchilla *Pop* without loosing them in background clutter... So I'm trying out the Dark Backdrop with no mane or tail pack since I've realized I have a serious long and luscious problem :))
