RL vs Game Horse Giveaway!
-
Since I've had so much help from this community, I wanted to give back. This giveaway will require 2 steps. Huge thank you to @ConfluenceStable for partnering with me. :x
1) A photo of a real life horse you own/ride/has touched your life in some way with a brief description of them. Maximum 2 photos so the thread doesn't load too slowly! https://imgbb.com/ tends to work well for me for hosting images.
2) Using the game search feature, find a horse that most closely resembles the real life horse you shared!
I will post an example entry below of my own horse. One entry per player only - if you have multiple accounts, please only enter once. This contest will run for one week and end on September 7th at 12pm game time! Winners will be picked by a random number generator. :)
1st place: $250k AND up to 4 alelles (2 full genes) added to a horse of your choice.
2nd place: $150k AND 2 alelles (1 full gene) added to a horse of your choice.
3rd place: $100k AND 1 alelle (half a gene - heterozygous) added to a horse of your choice.
EXAMPLE ENTRY:
This is my 13 year old Straight Egyptian Arabian gelding, Spring Storm BF. I have owned him since he was a newly-turned 5 year old and he is my absolute heart horse. We ride Dressage/Sport Horse, but due to show nerves and injuries (he actually fractured his pastern two winters ago and I've had 3 foot surgeries in the past 2 years), we haven't shown as a team yet. He did show very successfully with my Dressage trainer years ago, though. We love to just hack around the ring, ride bareback, and school Dressage. I'm recovering from my 3rd foot surgery and once I get the OK to ride again, we'll be aiming for some shows next season! <3 He has a very unique color and is border-line a wild bay with silver/flaxen throughout his mane and at the dock of his tail, as well as his legs (it is possibly a genetic trait linked to Egyptian Arabians). He was actually part of a genetic study through UC Davis, but I haven't heard the results yet. It has also been suggested he may carry a splash gene as he has white on all 4 feet, a blaze, and white on his lower lip.
Using the search feature, this is the closest game horse I could find to my RL boy. :)

I'm not sure if this is going to work very well since image hosting sites are starting to suck..
EDIT: Sharayah to the rescue! Thank you for the image host site! It worked like a charm!
But this is Zeffirelli... My 18 year old OTTB Thoroughbred.. I first seen him when I was 13 and he was a 2 year old on stall rest at a Thoroughbred breeding barn I worked at in exchange for board for my old Quarter Horse man... He had a fractured right shoulder. His trainer constantly warned me to stay away from his stall, that he was mean... I seen something else. I seen a horse that was very misunderstood.. over the course of his stay at the barn while in recovery, I grew attached to him.. I'd go out and hand pick him clover and I always made sure he had adequate hay and water.. he was never mean to me! He'd nicker at me when I came into the barn in the morning! Then I found out that he was the son of my favorite broodmare, Amberleigh... Amber was a sad case.. she had a bad club foot that got harder and harder to keep her comfortable with as she got older.. when she had her last foal, everyone knew that her time was at an end when we found her nursing her last foal while she laid on the ground.. the day they trailered her away to be Euthanized, I ran into Zeffirelli's stall were I buried my face into his neck and cried.. all while he just stood there, quiet as can be!
Then the day came for him to go back into training.. thankfully my mom took a job at the track as a hot walker so I always went with her to see my boy! Every night while the races ran, I'd be in his stall, sitting with his head on my lap as he snored his night away! One night I seen his groom walk by with another horse and he looked at me all while shaking his head.. he apparently went to my mother and told her that he would kill me one day if I kept doing stupid things like that.. almost 17 years later, he's still the love of my life and will continue to be until our last breath
This is the horse I found that closest resemble my boy...
His father was a Chestnut so I know for a fact he's eE.. plus I filtered the search by size because as a 2 year old, Zeffirelli was taped in at 16.2hh and continued to grow until he was 6!
Only thing about this pixel that my boy doesn't have is the frame and the white front sock (my boy only has a back sock)

This horse doesn't belong to me(but I may get to adopt him), his name is Merkava, though I usually call him 'Merk' for short. He was rescued from starvation a few years ago, and I met him about a month ago. He isn't a registered horse but we assume that he's mostly Quarter Horse.
He helped me adjust to the state I just moved to by being someone I can hug and cry to without any judgement (as long as he gets food).
He may not be mine, but I love him as if he was.

Well I think I picked a hard one... I looked through literally hundreds of pixel ponies trying to find the closest match! Splash and frame are tricky because even if the genes are close, there could be so many possibilities in the way the pattern turns out!
This is Casper, my own very first horse. We bought him when I was around 11, and he is a big lazy lovebug. I showed him some but mostly just wanted to hack him. He is 21 now and mostly blind but still the sweetest guy ever! I no longer ride but he is happy being a pasture pony on my family's land.
This is the closest pixel pony I could find... I think it would look closer with a chestnut red base instead of red dun, as Casper's color is a bit darker/more intense. But this one has his blue eyes!

Palomino Morgan and my heart horse, he is 24 this year and I haven't seen him in a while. A young girl is leasing him now and spoiling him. He taught me patience and persistence.

This is Rosie, a true Rainbow Rider pony. Her dam belonged to the program and she spent her life making people with disabilities happy. I met her in May of 1994 when she was just a few hours old, helped with her training, and used her for both riding and driving. We had to let her go this spring at the age of 26 because of an enlarging tumor on her left ovary that was adversely affecting her behavior.
This game pony comes fairly close to looking like her. She had more white on her face and not as much on her legs. Her stockings were more flaxen colored than white. She also had dapples, some seasons more than others. She didn't have as much feathering on her legs.

This was a hard decision since I have had so many horses in my life. But I think I have to go with this guy. RockIt is a 14.1 hand quarter/paint mix. I saved him from starvation, illness, and parasites when he was a 2yo which stunted his growth. He has turned out to be such an amazing pony/horse. He never refuses anything I ask of him, he has taught many children to ride as well as run barrels, evented, and lots of trail riding. Amazingly he manages to stay very clean even when he is out to pasture and does not sunburn thankfully. Cannot say how much of a blessing it has been to have him in my life <3
This is Derringer my very first heart heart horse May 18th 2017 i hit an oily spot on the road and rolled my truck which caused me to break my back. The doctors told me I would never set foot in the saddle again. 6 long months of seeing a chiropractor and I was given the okay to ride, 3 days later my boyfriends mom gave me 3 year old derringer. I am the only one who has ever been on her back as well as training her. We completed an 8.1 mile trail ride with a stirrup that broke mid gallop halfway home! She has helped me gain confidence I thought id never get back :x
This is where I wish they showed more Grey process since derringer is in fact going Grey though she looks buckskin right now lol
This game pony is the closest to what she looks like right now

Ok, this is Lily. She’s more a paper weight than a horse. The first pic was our life years ago, but between my back injury and her torn deep digital flexor (from kicking her stall fence because the horse 45 feet away was too close) she now lives at home and parties with her pet chickens. I did do a genetic test to check some colors on her, I’ll attach that too! Its a good thing she’s pretty, the giant hen!
Heres her genetic test-
https://ibb.co/BBPpbDr
Finding her twin on here was tough. Shes a frame, but has the solid head with a big blaze. So unfortunately I couldn't get both. This was my best match i could come up with. He’s a bit darker around the frame...

I don’t know how to load pictures to a thread so I’ll link.
This is Brandi. She’s my first horse, and my best girl. She’s the sort of horse that tailors herself to her rider. Baby sit the beginner, challenge the more advanced rider. She’s grown with me as I’ve learned and has always taken good care of me. She’s one in a million and completely irreplaceable. We’ve been together almost 10 years now, and she’s down for anything I throw at her. She adores barrel racing, lights right up, and we may try our hand at roping.

This one’s leg white is a little different, but the colour tone is most faithful to her sooty, which is really striking in person.
Need to Leap -
I own a chestnut and a bay tobiano - I decided to go with the easy one :p
This is my lovely boy Bob! He is a 19 year old purebred Arabian gelding out of a chestnut sire and grey dam. It would be curious to know what the dam's genetics were, besides the grey, to see what other genes my boy might have had a chance at inheriting. But, as it were, Bob is the spitting image of his sire - chestnut with just a dash of chrome. He gets lovely dapples in the summer and his mane and tail are a cool mix of chestnut, blonde, and black hairs - would be cool to know what contributes to that, too.
5968012
This is the pixel pony that I think most closely resembles my Bob, based on the game photo and some of the horse's stats. This is a 20 year old (when I found him in the game three days ago he was 19, same age as Bob) chestnut, lined (Bob is not a foundation ;) ) "Arabian" gelding! He is also 15.2h, same height as Bob. The photo looks super close to my boy. It is the same shade of chestnut and has a hint of the dapples that I love so much on my boy (although I don't know if Bob has any sooty in him). I also doubt my boy is het satin, LOL. And I loved that this horse had the two short front whites like Bob, even though Bob doesn't have any hind socks.
Overall I think this is a super close match! And I'm glad this guy survived rollover so I could use him for this contest. haha!Post edited by FlyingTurkeyFarm at 2019-09-02 10:49:19 -
This is my 11yr old OTTB Thoroughbred (and me giving him loving) his race name was Boat Parade barn name blitz. He was a crap race horse and only raced one (he lost). The only notable pedigree he has is northern dancer. He’s super sweet and loves this mare he’s got as a pasture mate, he’s also got half a pecker.
X 10point3 Inc 7625896
This is the closest I could find as he’s a grey Roan (he looks fleabitten cause of this)Licensed for Mushroom,Onyx, Watercolor, Ice 13, ice 16, Phantom lace, Phantom Diamond sparkle. -
I have had a lot of horses teach me a lot through the years, but I chose my first horse Diamond.
She is a 4yr old, black, Welsh/Morgen grade mare. She has one small star on her forehead the size of a quarter. I got her when she was a lonf 2 year old, as a far as first horses go I probably should have gotten something older and broke. But she was payment for working a summer for a welsh breeder in my area, so I just couldn’t say no. So we’ve bumbled along learning together as we go. I won’t say I was completely unprepared for a young horse, but I was definitely green on the actual daily care part. It was just something I’d never had the chance to learn beforehand, and books only cover so much. Luckily I have several people to mentor me with horses, so if I don’t know something I know who to ask. She has taught me so much, we are finally becoming a team
DV 8509077
This is the closest one I could find, he star is too big, and she’s too tall, my girl is closer to 14hh. They are both 4 though. My girl also has a few white hairs scattered throughout her body, I’m not sure what genes it is since it isn’t focused anywhere specific.Post edited by Silverstar at 2019-09-03 18:43:06 -
This is Bree aka Lascaux Mambrino aka the perfect pony. He came to me as a possible euthanasia due to behavior issues. Turns out it was undiagnosed pain (that was not identified despite a lot of diagnostics by his previous owner). He will never be completely sound, but he gets around just fine. Bree is a pony that is incredibly willing and does anything that is asked of him. He is solid and safe and about as close to bomb proof as you can get. Just the other day, I was in the area next to the arena and accidently knocked something off the wall, which dropped onto the back edge of a jog cart, which in turn caused the cart to flip over and almost hit Bree in the face with the shafts. Bree blinked at the cart, didn't move a muscle thus protecting the kid that was grooming him on the opposite side and looked up at me to ask for cookies. I hitched him up for the first time in years at a horse show a few weeks ago and he went into the show ring like I had been working him every day. Nothing phases the perfect pony.
"
Bree is a 13hh Welsh section C pony of cob type. He is palomino with heavy pigmentation along his abdomen and his inner legs are almost black (where you can see it past the white) along with many dark bend or spots. So I call him sooty though he isn't the classic sooty pattern of over the topline. He also has huge splash like white markings and belly spots. So there isn't a horse in the game that really accurately expresses his pattern, but I found a sooty splash palomino cob pony.

Hopefully my image will work, it shows it in the preview.
One of my IRL 'heart horses' is Majic. He is the horse that has been in my life for over 10 years. Which is something I didn't realize till just now). Majic is a solid black paint gelding, although he is almost constantly sun-bleached, and is the big man on campus at the barn. He has an amazing personality and an overall 'kid-like/moody' attitude at times, but is definitely one of the nicest horses I have ever been around, he just has a habit of testing what he can get away with, particularly with new people. We have had a really good connection and relationship ever sense the first time I met him. He was the main horse I truly learned to ride on, and was the one who taught me to ride English. I don't have any current photos, as I always forget to take them, but the below is from ~7 or 8 years ago. If it wasn't for my IHSA team mates I wouldn't even have photos of me wining my 1st blue ribbon at my 1st ever horse show this year.
Kings Pride
Majic has only got one white sock, but he is probably the closest, without having to spend hours searching through.ID: 253959

This is Aster - a draft mix/grade horse that I broke to saddle and turned into a pretty decent trail horse. Unfortunately, I moved away from her owners, so she has passed out of my life, but she turned into a handy mare with a heart of gold. The one picture includes babyChateau with her; the other is how she used to like to sleep. (Can't figure out how to embed them, sorry.)

https://ibb.co/ZfH5Nqk
Game Match:
DC ex Boudica
I picked a lighter draft since Aster was a cross, and a foundation since she was unknown breeding. Height is about right. While Aster's pangare was pretty heavy, we really only have one option for expression in the game, but I did pick a PP versus a Pp. And, of course, to me she was Exceptionally Perfect.

I don't have any pictures of my heart horse, Famous, but I do have a photo of this guy. He was the first horse I rode after years of not riding due to multiple car accidents and physical therapy to correct issues with my back. This guy was part of a trail riding group that I lived near. I would go over a few times a week to help feed, administer meds, turnout, etc and he was such a goofball. He rested his head on top of mine once and slobbered up my hair. He also really loved dirt, not even mud, just dirt. This picture is the first time I got on him and went on a super short trail ride. I was in pain the whole time but I couldn't stop smiling. I don't remember his actual name since everyone called him Chief. I'm pretty sure he's just a plain chestnut.

This is the closest one I could find, obviously Chief wasn't tobiano(that I'm aware of) but it looks like only tobiano in the game give the one white hoof that goes up that far.I breed Drafts and star horses :D

I wasn't going to do this at first but I can't help myself, seeing everybodys heart horse is making me miss my boy. I had to sell him a few years ago because I went off to college and we didn't have any other place to keep him. His name is Ozzy, he was so quirky. I bought him when I was 12 wiht my own money I saved up and trained him for almost 4 years before selling him as a hunter horse (he LOVED to jump). He's a simple chestnut/sorrel gelding with a blaze, he was a Quarter Horse but he's sprinting bred so he was slender like a TB
https://ibb.co/GCkdfcn
Here we are at his first show, we rode a training level dressage test and came 4th out of 8, not bad for a greenie that was a bit crazy haha:

(Hopefully those links work)
Heres a horse I feel resembles him, he had no socks and a lighter mane and tail, his coat was super shiny and coppery in the summer

This is Flip, he is an off the track thoroughbred who was then started in eventing. He is very tall and lanky and out of shape right now. I only started working with him a little over a month ago so I have a lot of work to do in getting him more in shape. Personality wise, he’s a very sweet and goofy guy. He loves to knock over water bottles and is very affectionate. He is a sensitive ride with a lot of go and not so much whoah. He likes to jump
https://ibb.co/wRHvyqs

To pick a horse on HAJ I was looking for a bay with no white at all and at least 17 hands. I think one copy of sooty makes the closest shade of bay

This is my boy, Amerigold. He's a 16.3 Holsteiner gelding. My sister (in the pic) and I got him in high school when he was turning 3, and he just turned 15 this summer. It's been a fun journey bringing him along (she was the first person on his back). He's basically a big, goofy puppy though with a huge personality. He's pretty laid back but loves his job. He's dark bay/brown and gets big, gorgeous dapples when his coat changes. He's got 2 back socks and almost a half blaze/star. His sire and grandsire are both known for throwing big, bay babies with tons of chrome (and a signature, floating trot).

This was the closest I could find on the game, although Amerigold only has back socks.

Alright, it took some digging to find pictures because I had to sell all my horses when my parents moved to town five years ago, but here's Snickers!
https://ibb.co/NrbrMYN
https://ibb.co/qdPG6XM
He was my first horse, and I learned to ride on him when I was still little enough that that was logical. He's a 34 inch miniature horse, and he's super patient and understanding with kids and thoroughly expects adults to know better! I got him when I was six, and by the time I was in high school, he would give me this look whenever I did anything dumb like "I swear I taught you better than this". He was probably what you all call a heart horse, and I do miss him. I'm not too worried though, because I know he went to great people and the last time I saw him, he was patiently standing around and eating hay while a six year old girl played with his feet.
So I think he was a black that just sun faded a lot, but the blacks on here are so solid black that I found a little liver chestnut cob instead.
