How far back do you track even breeding?
-
I am finally getting to where I will be breeding my first 4G (ahh!), which brought up a question for me. I have been breeding evenly for my whole time in the game so far, so all of my 2Gs and 3Gs are evenly bred, and so would be my 4Gs. My question is...
How far do you, personally, track evenness? I know everyone has a preference, but I am wondering what others do. Personally, I am inclined to stop keeping track of even breeding after 4G, and calling horses from then on out (5G+) simply "lined." However, I don't want to ruin the market for future lined foals being sold, so if people are tracking evenness much farther than past 4G, I can continue to do so, too, in order to maintain the value of my foals.
Thanks in advance for your input! :) -
In some of my lines I'll track all the way, but of the time I'll stop keeping track after 4G
-
I plan to track indefinitely.
All my mares get the prefix JL and my studs JS
I track generations with the alphabet starting on the 2nd gens. 2nd- JLa (JSa), 3rd- JLb(JSb), 4th JLc(JSc), etc.
When I breed I just match the 3rd letter of the prefix and the alphabet gives me a long time to figure out how to track the rest from there lolPost edited by Bandit1119 at 2019-09-14 06:21:35Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
Ok, can someone give me the run down on what evenly bred means?
-
It means that they have the same number of ansestors on both their site and dam's side.

Dragonfly, if you click on the family tab of a horse you'll see what AlloraKerrhy is talking about.
A horse that has all the visible slots filled on the family tab is referred to as 'fully lined' and this would be a fourth generation horse. For some people that is good enough to class as evenly bred, for others they are more strict and continue further or indefinitely. Personally, I tattoo my horses with 2nd gen, 3rd gen, 4th gen and 5+ gen. My intention was to just use 5+ gens with each other but I can't seem to bring myself to do it!
FlyingTurkeyFarm - do what you feel comfortable with, if you decide to sell a horse in the future then you are bound to find someone who is comfortable with your way of playing.Post edited by WhiteValley at 2019-09-14 08:01:48 -
Yeah, I'm still fairly new and just starting to get 4th gens, but I'm tracking all of mine so they're evenly bred all the way through. The ones that aren't are specifically marked and part of my bootstrapping program.ID #238663, she/her pronouns

All the way back, and if i oops and mix them up ... even at the 4th or 5th gen + I spay or just sell back to the game.

I plan on breeding evenly forever, aside from my fully lined show horses that are bred strictly for PT. My actually breeding stock is evenly bred, some up to 8g so far. :)
-
Thanks for the discussion, everyone! Still debating but I'm much more inclined to breed evenly indefinitely now. And I still have plenty of time to decide!

I plan on breeding evenly forever too. I'm up to 7th gen atm.
