Hello, welcome to the game! These boys are all lovely, but none of them are 4th generation horses. They are all what is considered "lined" with long pedigrees. This isn't a bad thing, these are still great quality guys! Generations are typically used in reference to evenly bred horses, up to around 6th or 7th genereation. First generation is foundation horses, when you breed foundation to foundation you produce a second generation, 2nd generation to 2nd generation creates a 3rd generation and so on.

Hi, thanks. Right I understand that and realize their pedigree does go further if you view the full lineage, so I guess they are called gen 0? That is who they should be bred to in order to keep things even? Thanks. Sorry to sound like an idiot, I guess I just figured if it was a 4th generation + people called them 4th generation.

I think you are confusing the horse's generation with its era. Generation refers to how many ancestors it has in its pedigree, as explained above. Eras refer to when (in real-life time) the line the horse is descended from was started, not to how many generations are found in its complete pedigree.

We are currently in Era 5 in this game. All ordinary create foundations made will fall into Era 5. Exceptionally Perfect and Exceptional Producers and Exceptional Show Horses will be placed in Era 4. If you add Boost tokens to a foundation horse, it will push its Era back one--from 5 to 4 for ordinary creates and from 4 to 3 for Exceptionals.

If you breed two horses that are in different Eras together, the foal will be placed into the Era of the parent with the earlier Era. For breeding purposes, there is no drawback to breeding horses of different eras together, although I think some players pay some attention to this. The only thing that it affects is which of the Era Breeders Clubs the horse is eligible for. Because there are more lines originating in Era 0 than in any of the more recent Eras, there is more competition for the top places in Era 0 leaderboards than there is for the top places in the more recent Eras.
