Using a photo as an avatar
-
I recently learned how to put photos onto my computer and I would like to use one of them as my avatar. The trouble is that it is too big (I discovered that the big M in Mb is not the same as the little m in mb). Anyway, can anyone explain how I get the thingummy to fit into the whatsit. You can tell from this that you will have to explain using simple words and possibly repeat yourself several times very loudly and slowly until I get it! :)) Thanks in advance to the patient person who is willing to take this on. :)

The first thing you will need is a photo editing program with which to adjust the size of your photo. I use Photoshop, myself, but that's a very complex and expensive program.
A Google search for online photo editing programs found this one:
http://pixlr.com/editor/
It appears to be fairly simple to use and there are some neat tutorials available on their site.
Here is another one: http://www.fotor.com/
Anyway, if you want to choose one of these or another one, I will be glad to try your choice myself and then give step by step instructions to guide you on your way. Keep in mind that the size restraints mean that a very complex and highly detailed image will not transfer as well as a more simple one.

Thanks for your help. I think I'll just leave it then, it seems too difficult and the picture I wanted to use wouldn't look too good made small anyway.

I understand completely. Luckily I had a friend who introduced me to Photoshop more than 10 years ago, now. He taught me how to do just a few things and gave me the older version he was no longer using. Since then, I've skimmed a few books about using the program, done a few online tutorials, and poked around the edges a bit, upgrading to CS4 when an unbeatable deal crossed my path and my daughter and I were able to join forces to buy it. Even after all these years, I would estimate that I use only about 1/10th of what the program is able to do. There's a whole lot of Photoshop that still intimidates me.Thanked by 1WhiteValley
