Brindle?
  • Hi y'all! I'm brand new to this game, and am having fun revisiting my love for biology by reading up on basic genetics again. I'm a little confused, though - how does brindle work in this game? I know that many of the rare brindle horses in the real world are actually genetic chimeras, but there are also some that have a supposedly heritable brindle gene.
I bought this brindle mare and can't figure out what in her genetics makes her brindle - can someone shed light on this for me? Is it possible to breed brindle babies?

  • While brindle babies can pop up, there is no real breeding secrets behind getting them as they are sporadic and rare... When you see "Mosaic" in the gene codes that's what brindle is. However it's not an inherited trait. There's usually between 50-70 lined brindle babies born each season, some to brindle parents and others to normal parents. I've been playing for almost a year and I've only had 4 brindle babies pop up while others have been playing for many real years and haven't been able to get one yet..
  • Ahhh, thanks! Now I see the "mosaic" marking in her genetics info. That makes sense - in my limited genetics knowledge I understand mosaicism as being kind of like chimerism.
Are there other mosaic traits in this game, it is brindle it?
  • Just brindle for now... However there are new genes being discovered every year that Ammit has incorporated into the game. We just got Tiger Eye a few months ago!
  • Ive been playing since 2006/2007... I have done MANY brindle X brindle breedings. This year I finally got my FIRST brindle foal!

  • I saw Ammit hint once, that bridal mares are more likely to throw bridal offspring.
  • I got 2 brindle foals this year, both from brindle parents so I think genetics is a factor in increasing the odds.
  • @SaraB if I remember correctly, it has nothing to do with genetics. It's all luck. Having both parents being Brindle only increases that luck by a little bit, but it's still very, very little. The fact that you got two Brindle babies in one season means you just got really lucky. Even though both parents are Brindle, you got very, very lucky. Lucky ducky I must say!

Almost forgot to add! You can get a Brindle foal out of non-Brindle parents. But that is a whole new level of luck!

  • My first 2nd Gen Brindle foal came from Better Brindle Breakout stud and an Bring Back The Sun Brindle mare.
