One question that comes up repeatedly from new players is whether inbreeding causes any problems in the game. The answer is always no, but in order to show this I have been conducting an experiment with inbreeding to prove this. I created an ordinary stallion (C papered) and mare (yellow papered) and bred them each season to each other. I ran all foals through Strict Breeding Advice so that they were gelded/spayed automatically, but all intact foals were left no matter what they papered. The next generation were then bred to each other and so on. This is an intact 4th generation stallion and if you look at the family pedigree you can see that there was an increase in paper levels and PT score.

I hope this helps to illustrate that you really don't need to worry about any inbreeding in your lines, no matter how big.

Is it all right if I show some examples from my lines as well? :) In spite of trying to have enough stock for more varied pedigrees, my main line has ended up very inbred.

Px4 Hometown Summer

My champion top producing stallion from year 88

Px3 Hometown Swinger

#2 top producing mare for year 88

Px3 Daybreak

#2 Highest PT of the year for year 88. This is about as varied as my line gets, and both sire and dam are inbred— just with a different foundation sire on each side.

I prefer to call it “linebreeding” because it’s working for me. Lol

Good example of inbreeding in that 1st horse, but it's not a good example of what I would call decent quality lines. Now I feel the urge to do something similar, but with the quality standards I have (C-B-A-A and Y-R-B-B), I'll have to figure out what horses I'm gonna use for the project.

I would like to think my Cherry Drop project is on its way to decent quality... All founding parents are GMTed Cherry Drops.. This is the first 3rd gen Blue I got 2 seasons ago, Kentucky is the grandsire on both sire and dam's side..

Thanks for all the people adding examples. I only did this experiment to show new players that there is no problem with using a limited number of horses over and over again. My aim was not to be too fussy with quality which is why I only used the Strict Breeding Advice to decide on breeding stock. As you can see, some offspring remained intact, sufficient that I could keep going to the 4th generation. I am not continuing with this as I think it shows what I set out to prove. All the horses have reasonable PT scores so they will simply be show horses and keep me in hbs for quite a while.
