STY or S+, I am having trouble with these
-
I am totally lost with the STy and the S+, are these different genes? Is the S+ supposed to replace the STy, I have horses that have one or the other and are considered Sooty plus, but the horse marked with the STy are not eligible for the S+ breeder club. This is one area in genetics that I am just not sure about at all.
-
S+ does replace a Sty or S. For example, this horse is a bay as he only has one copy of sooty, and that copy is S+. The S+ has the dapples.

Here is an example of a regular dark bay with one copy of Sty.

I hope this illustrates the difference.Post edited by Visions at 2014-04-30 14:21:57 -
Sooty+ (S+) is a variant of the regular Sooty (S) gene. Ammit created it for the game to give us horses that had a darker sootyness and dapples. Horses that do not express sooty are SS, or recessive for the Sooty gene. Horses that are heterozygous sooty are SstyS and will show the darkening from the top line down. Horses that are homozygous for sooty are SstySsty and appear darker. For example a bay horse that is homozygous for sooty is a brown, in the game. S+ is a third sooty allele, just as pearl is a third cream allele, and if a parent of a foal carries that allele, it may pass it on. So, a horse can have any pair combination of the three alleles, depending on what its parents are carrying: SS, SSsty, SstySsty. SS+, SstyS+, or S+S+. I hope this helps.
ETA My daughter reminds me that when S+ is combined with Dominant Dun, it enhances the normal dun markings.
Sooty+ is a Limited Edition gene so that it is not always available in the GMT lab, and when it is, it is always expensive in real-life cash.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2014-04-30 16:03:42 -
The S+ is a special sty which is only available by purchase only that replaces S or Sty in the horses gene sequence. If you are lucky enough, you can breed a mare you own to someone's stud that they have bought the S+ for, which are usually up for a higher stud price, because of it.
Regular creates will only have Sty or S (no sty), but to get S+, cost real money, like I said, unless you breed to someones stud who has already gotten it.
It is one of the special genes that you can buy occasionally, with GMT's. Right now they are available to buy in the Gen Mod Treatment area of your side bar. It cost 25 GMT's to get 1 gene of S+, or 50 GMT's to get 2 genes for a homozygous S+.
You can get GMT's in the Upgrade section on your side bar, and right now if you check you will see that S+ and SB2 (a special white gene) are available to buy, of the special genes.
There are other special genes you can get in the game, based on real life genetics of horses.
Other special genes you can buy at times are:
Pearl - a special cream gene that makes horses shiney!
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1937314 .
W3 (White 3)
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2031620 .
Satin - a gene that makes the horses color rainbowish in the game, to imitate the way the Akhal Teke horse breed coat shines. Very rare to get.
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1500658 .
GP (Gulalsta Plume - turns tail tip white on bay based horses, but non bay horses can be carriers)
http://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2723347 .
Sabino 1 (Sb1) , Sabino 2 (Sb2), and Sabino 3 (Sb3)are other White genes that can be bought.
KP - gene that works with the Kit genes. White washes out in the body, kinda bleeds out of the regular shape. Horse must have 2 kit patterned genes like roan, or tobiano to have it show, but ones with 1 kit gene can be carriers.

Another rare gene is called Ice. It is the only "imaginary" gene used in the game (that I know of), but the horses are really cool looking, and each are different. There are two different copies of Ice out, Ice 1 and Ice 2, here is a link to an Ice 1 horse I have.

There are probably more that I can't remember at the moment, and I could be wrong on some of the stuff, since I don't have all of the special gene horses, but this will give you an idea of what is out there. What would probably be best for you to do is do a search for each color I have mentioned, and see how they are on different horses.
I think someone also had posted a thread somewhere (on our old forum) about all the different special genes, but it's been a while, so I don't know where to look for it.
Hope this helps you and doesn't confuse you more.Post edited by KerredansCorral at 2014-04-30 16:04:03Was Rebecca Iavelli on the old forum

Think! - It's not illegal yet. -

Thank you guys, I have a much better understanding of the genes now and really appreciate the help.
