Someone Cheer Me Up
  • I found out a couple days ago that my 10 week old son has a problem with his skull forming too early (soft spot closing) and will likely have to have surgery to open it back up so his brain has room to grow. It’s not supposed to close until 10-12 months :(. The reality of the situation has really hit me today, especially the last few hours. Feeling really upset and scared for my baby.

Cheer me up! Tell stories, show me your favorite line, your current breeding projects, your current GMT projects, anything :-S

  • I'm sorry you've got that going on, that's super stressful! But it is really amazing what the medical field is capable of. It sounds like there's solid treatment options available!

Ok, here's a kind of silly story that just happened, which may not be nearly as entertaining in writing, but here goes. I have two dogs, a 35 pound border collie cross and a 100 pound mastiff mix. The border collie, Juniper, has a couple of dog kennels, which she loves. We leave the one in the living room open for her all the time, and she's constantly sleeping in there. The mastiff, Tank, has never had a kennel before, at least since I got him at a year old, because he's too big for that to be reasonable and he's usually well behaved enough that there'd be no point in kenneling him. The living room kennel is one we found at a thrift store, and it's fairly roomy for Juniper. Not huge, but big enough that she can sprawl out in there, or share it with the cat.
An hour or so ago the pizza delivery guy got here and knocked on the door, so naturally both dogs run to the door to bark about it, but the wrong dog comes popping out of Juniper's kennel! I look over to see Tank ducking and hunching his shoulders down to get out under the door sill of this kennel that is shorter in length then he is, trying to get out without hitting his head while busy barking at the pizza guy! And then once the pizza excitement had settled back down, he worms his way back in there, making the whole thing rock and shake every time he moves, curls up into a doggy donut because that's really the only way he's gonna fit, and goes back to sleep! It was pretty comical to watch, like the dog equivalent of The Rock trying to get into a VW Bug.

  • I'm so sorry - that sounds terrifying. Our kid had all sorts of issues as a baby (none that required surgery, but dude's got borderline anaphylactic allergies to a few things and it was causing internal bleeding and took forever to figure out). Now he's almost three, and while we have to be suuuuper careful what he eats, he's doing well.

I recently scrapped my entire breeding program on this account to try to make a TE, satin, low white factor liver line. I'd like to eventually have offspring all ee aa (so they're kinda blank slates) with hom DP, hom TE, and hom satin... I'm also going to try for even breeding, which I haven't bothered with before. (Although it looks like I'll be implementing it on my DP S+ buckskin account too, out of convenience!)

For my satin liver project, I ended up with this guy:

I'll get to try him out next month, and I'm super excited.
Feel free to rummage through my barns/pastures and let me know if there's anyone you want (other than I DeLiver lol).
And, of course, if you ever want someone to talk to, hit me up. I'll be thinking about y'all!

  • Satin Tiger Eye livers is almost exactly what I want to do with one part of my liver line!
    And yeah, he's a goof!

  • I'm so sorry you're going through this. Medical issues with our kids is always terrifying, and having it drawn out like that can be worse as we have too much time to worry. Easier said than done, but just try to enjoy any down time you have with your baby.
  • Thank you :x

  • Sending up prayers for successful surgery for your little one.

When my daughter was about the same age as your son, we were visiting my husband's parents. She had recently started talking with "See dat," a full sentence letting us know that she wanted to look at something closer. So, when she got scolded for starting to empty her grandmother's kitchen waste basket, she sobbed to me her excuse, "See dat, see dat."

  • Hey, @LCorona I was thinking about you the other day and wondered if you had any updates about your little guy? Is he for sure going to need surgery? When will that be? I can't imagine how scary that must be for you. I got a little nervous when my son had his ear tubes put in - and that was only a 10 minute procedure!

Hope all is well for you and your little one! <3
  • Thank you so much for thinking of us. I’m sorry I didn’t think to come back and update this thread. He went to see a specialist and she was able to find his soft spot! She said his head and forehead are larger than normal (because he’s going to be a BIG boy as an adult, around 6 foot 4) so it’s in a different spot than normal. She said we will be keeping an eye on it, regular appointments every 2 months and as long as he continues to hit his milestones, not to worry! :D :x
