Dressage to music, help!
  • Does anyone want to help me choose some music for my freestyle dressage? It's a low key event "mock challenge". I'm still not 100% sure if I'll go, entries are on the day thank goodness. But it would be a perfect opportunity to figure out a test and music for upcoming state level freestyles.
    They want music from movies.
So in my test I'll have all my collected and medium work at walk, trot and canter, potentially some extended work too, as well as a free walk. I'll do shoulder-in, possibly travere or half pass as well as 10m circles and simple changes.
My boy looks like a warmblood, I can find a video of his movement if anyone wanted to see.
I'm just really struggling because I have a limited movie knowledge, my favourite movies are LOTR and Braveheart and let's be honest, those soundtracks have unfortunately been done to death.
  • I know diddly squat, but I like these songs :P

  • One of my friends just wow'd the judges at the British PRE championships with her freestyle test Charlie and The Chocolate Factory themed.
She dressed as an Oompa Loompa! her horse wore gold sparkly boots.
Are you on FB discussion group, I can try and post a link to her test if you are
  • Not sure about the Aussie dressage scene but judges over here are bored to death of Pirates of The Caribbean themed tests so may be one to avoid
  • Elfman themes tend to be bouncy, fun, dramatic and seldom used so would be a good fit.

A test to the ending song from Beatlejuice would be a hoot. It has a great beat for a horse who is a big impulsive mover *cough Fresian*

  • Yeah I am Jemima!

Awesome, thanks for the ideas guys!!! :D It's gonna take a bit of planning, but I'll let you know what I go with. Love the thought of dressing up like an oompa loompa :')

I might have just stumbled across the Sweeney Todd soundtrack as well ;)
  • I've posted the link in the FB discussion group for you
  • I always wanted to ride a test to Requiem For A Dream, one of th songs in LOTR (and Requiem For A Dream). It picks up nicely and has great rhythm for riding to.

  • This is much used for movie trailers etc.
  • If a ballet counts then try Swan Lake. It's truly a beautiful song. I guess it was also in a Barbie movie so it could work.
  • anything from how to train a dragon has a great beat, Charlotte Dujardins test is a great reference as she used a song from that movie :) hope that is helpful!
