All breeding pairs have a range of possibilities for both breeding ability and PT score their offspring may have. Pasture bonus narrows that range by cutting off the low end, so gives you better odds of getting a foal that passes breeding advice. It’s a figurative roll of the dice for any pair whether it will pass or not, but pairing similar paper levels together increases your odds of passing. There seems to be a much wider range of ability at the star/gold level, so breeding a high star to a low gold for example would increase the likelihood of a foal getting auto-spayed/gelded.

When asking questions about particular horses it’s always best to include links so people can look and give better answers.

I always start by breeding evenly starting with foundations (mostly C and yellow) and work my way up to star levels so I know that each of my generations are all progressing similarly because all of the horses in their pedigree have similar starting quality. This makes it easier to pair horses to get more intact horses

By the time you get up to star and gold you could have 4 generations in the pedigree or 14 and if you were to pair those pedigrees together the foal would have to be super amazingly better than the lower parent to be even close to the higher parents quality. The foal must be about as good as both parents so the closer you can get the parents quality to each other the lower the bar is set for the foal to pass testing.

@ACHSTABLES for foundation horses, when you don't have a basic upgrade - base creates that pass BA are generally Yellow/C, Exceptionally Perfect or Exceptional Producing (or some RSs - there's a list somewhere but if you get a RS you can just search it & someone will have papered one) are Red/B. If one of the parents is a Red/B and the foal passes BA, the foal is at least Red/B (generally speaking).
